I am so tired of the sports med MDM roles being worshipped. I am. It saying that they don't help..but I am saying these guys are mostly full of shit. They claim full credit for what we do, and they alll walk around like they are king shit. R u kidding me 1/2 of the "deals" they sign are sold by the reps which they claim credit for. I am going to lose my mind if I hear one more person say these guys are killing it. Really??? WTF management...pay attention. U guys are incompetent

Instead of investing in the sales force, they invest in more middle management. There are certainly some good people in those roles. There are many that couldn't even hack it is rep however. The amount of unqualified people that have been promoted to MDM or SSM roles is astounding. The original SSMs didn't even work (KM)....so they hired more. The shoulder specialist couldn't be found for 2 years. Real man of mystery. So they gave him a promotion and are moving him to corporate.

I think u mean SDM guys. And yes they claim they are bringing big sales. Funny thing is my guy did the quote. Came in and explained the program. Then did nothing else. I sold the drs, did the trial and pushed to win the deal. How did he get recognized for the sale??

Yeah. I'm on board. I got to listen to these fools talking tonight about how they are the daddies...I'm pretty sure they blow each other as they claim everything we do...SDMs... wow. What a joke

Yes...yes and why not hire 30 more SDMs. It's really bringing in the money. Oh wait every year we grow 6-9% regardless of these M roles. Yeah. Good leadership guys

I dare someone to try and justify the MDM/SDM role? It's a joke and now we have more of these leeches to go around? The only benefit I see coming from creating more of these positions is to steal over strong competitive reps who are tired of EARNING their pay and need some title. They manage/develop absolutely nothing, create more work for the reps in the field, and their "strategy" isn't to grow under-developed or highly competitive territories, but rather, find out what reps are killing it and somehow tie themselves in on currently trending territories. I have no more teats to go around people!

Firing in this company should start at the top. Wasting money on products with limited commercial potential while pissing away opportunities to improve cash cows. We can tee them up all day long only to watch management swing and miss.

Ha ha finally. The people speak. Seemed like these M roles were the heros of the company...mostly in their minds. I was told last year if I wanted a career in Corp that I needed to get one of these roles. WTF kind of logic is that?

Don't get caught up in the role itself or whether it's actually useful. Worship and follow, at any cost to your dignity, the person who came up with the idea to create those roles. That's your golden ticket.

You have to understand - all of these mdm/ ssm people are reps who were terrified of selling as a career . Terrified of growing and mastering at territory . Terrified of having to make a living through there own sales skills . So when a job comes along that lets you hide behind others and cling to other people's success , you take the " promotion " . Personally , I think you keep these leaches out of your area, master your own relationships and deals. Their inactivity in your area will be noticed and they will push to " get involved ". At that point , you have created leverage over them.

Based on these comments there seems to be a lot of reps in the field that don't fully understand the resources they have available......

SMD = Sales Development Manager = an extension of the Sales Training Team to collaborate with Field Sales Trainers and DOSs to manage local / regional rep training and development plans

SSM = Strategic Sales Manager = responsible for collaborating with DOS and local sales reps to present financial programs

MDM = Market Development Manager = responsible for collaborating w/ Sales and Marketing to engage KOLs, manage limited commercial launches and new product adoption. Chosen for their field based experience and clinical acumen.... a regional bench for future DOS

If you don't understand the resources you have, then you clearly aren't doing your job in the field correctly

funny story: I had a conversation with one of these amazing MDM's and he told me straight up that if SN got purchased tomorrow that his role would be eliminated. He said, its a sub regional manager role that is pretty much pointless
