Pharmaceutical Sales is really for dummies.

stop crying and man up. the job is ridiculously easy. if you try to find self worth through any job than you are an idiot. a job is just a means to an end. go out do your job collect your paycheck and turn it off. plain and simple. we get paid way to much, get to many perks, have to much freedom to take this job for granted. what would you rather be doing?? digging ditches or doing construction? wow I feel so good about myself because I paved the highway. fuck that. accept a job for what it is, a job. what other job can you make 100k a year, free car, not have an office, see your boss once a month, and really just drive around and bullshit with people? no where. if you are lucky enough to have this job than you should enjoy it and understand it for what it is. WHITE MANS WELFARE!

I just wanted to say that you have far too many spelling/grammar errors to justify anything that you are saying. You are only confirming the fact that you don't have an education and didn't have many job options in the first place. I typically don't respond to these threads honestly this is probably my first one but, I feel that you need to understand how bad your writing skills are. I would have listened to your response but, can't get past the level of grammar. I just can't take you seriously. Good luck on your ending job. If I was you I would have my kids check my work and do my best to keep the job that I have.

55 years old...life long pharma sales guy...(RAM, NAE, etc) Got pushed out at 50...

Have bounced around a couple of bottom-feeder sales jobs since then, and am selling everything
that is not nailed down...I was living in a bubble thinking everyone out there made 100K for working part time in America...

Anyway, what a huge mistake going down the pharma rode turned out to be...wasted life...And the money is not that great when you factor in you will be essentially unemployable after 50.

My condolences. I'm also 55 but I have been in device sales my entire sales career. While big corporate can filter out older sales people in any field I find devices an easier path to a lasting career. Successful device sales people are a rarer breed that rely less on a strict marketing regimen by big Pharma to guide the sales process and more on developing a need and relationships. In the event of a filtering purge the ability to find alternative device opportunities are plentiful and they are typically in need of experienced sales people vs. the youth oriented churn and burn of big pharmaceuticals. My advice to all. Heed this persons warning.

appreciate the advice. its good stuff.
but, in this world, if you know the right people, you will be fine. network, get into management even if you don't like management. and, as you get older, you will be more than fine.
it also helps if you are in a good city where there are people, not a small town where you will definitely be limited.

The shit has already hit the fan.

on the value part, well you are right for the most part. However, some jobs give you some respect and dignity (teaching, nursing, pastor), while pharma sales just sucks the life out of people. It has sucked the life out of me, and I am ready to move on.

We get no respect. Not from management. Not from doctors. Not from staff. Not from the outside world. It sucks.

Perhaps you are not intelligent, and it doesn't bother you. But, for others that can think on their feet and are smart, they can't take it anymore.

Money is important, but quality of life and self respect are far more important.

After a few beers, I finally see it clearly: this industry is really for dummies.

If you have a quality education and are smart, then you are making a big mistake even considering this for a career.

Add the downsizings every other year, and the losers in the industry, and you have even more reason to quit.

Personally, I can't wait to get downsized to start my new career. The nice house, the nice lifestyle are good, but these THINGS cannot replace self respect and the joy of having a job where you are treated like an adult.

Bye Bye Pharma. I know you are not going to miss me, but I also know that I got my life back and my spirit and life back.

For those of you that stay, have fun with the toys you get from this job, and have fun continuing to let the vipers in this industry suck the life out of you. Not me. Not anymore.

This once proud profession went to the circus many years ago when companies ceased hiring professional reps( health/medical field trained) and replaced them with unqualified clowns. Sales manager clowns began requiring reps to sell pills by any method they could dream up and docs began turning reps away from their offices. Novartis is a good example of scam selling below by scam reps (unqualified relatives of docs) and will now suffer the consequences in court, I hope.

The job has NO value besides a paycheck. Move on. Some of us are trying to do other things that bring value, some of us just don't care, some are waiting and hopeful to retire. A smart person would work on another "job" or further their education and always have something to fall back to when the Sht hits the fan in a few more years.

you can check here high paying pharma jobs in 2019 and lot of articles related to pharmaceutical field.

Look, most jobs are for 'dummies' save the jobs that require special training or years of school, ie. doctors, dentists, etc., electrical engineers, airline pilot, architects, etc. you get the point.

Most of the 'other' jobs whether it be blue or white collar are teachable jobs and on most days when you fail at said job nobody dies.

Sure some people have inherent competencies such as an outgoing person being more geared for sales versus an introvert shy person or a math wiz being good at accounting, but even in those cases you can teach people how to sell or how to be an accountant and again if they fail no one will die. So to say pharma sales is any more for dummies than anything else is moronic.

Unless you need to receive some grandiose fulfillment from your job, i.e. teacher, nurse, Red Cross, etc. a job is merely a means to an end. It's a vehicle to provide for yourself and your family if you have one. I couldn't care less what i sell or who i work for or if my job could be done my a middle schooler. It pays me pretty well, the work life balance is enviable, and the benefits are solid. I haven't W2'd less than $150K since my fist few years in the biz back in the early 90's. Not a ton of money but good enough to live in the nice part of town and rarely worry about money issues. Out of curiosity did anyone really think they were going to get some level of fulfillment from a sales job and or non alturistc jobs? I have buddies who sell financial services and they are no more fulfilled than anyone else I know selling cars, or pharmaceuticals, or houses.
