Does Kaleo support remote work?

I am considering a job at Kaleo and curious from insiders if/how the org supports people who work remotely or if that is even an option. I understand there are times I will have to travel to Richmond but would rather not relocate.

I would say that is all depends on the specific role that you're going for. If the role requires you to be 'in the field' a lot, then of course some remote work would be expected (especially if you're role/skills are needed in a specific regional area). Obviously, anything in the sales department would be considered a remote job, and most of the medical liaisons are remote. However, if it is a home office role in Richmond, then you should expect to live/work (Monday – Friday) in Richmond.

The only caveat to this (at least, to some extent), is the hiring manager and how much discretion they impart on this issue. I am sure that your hiring manager would let you work from home in various situations (sick family member, child’s snow days from school, car repairs, etc.). However, if it's a home office role, then don’t expect to work every Friday from home; that’s just not in the cards.

If you get selected for an interview, then you need to ask about this issue. Or if you’ve already had an interview, then call back and ask HR or the hiring manager for a quick follow up. But be very specific when asking your question(s), and make certain that you fully understand what, or is not, allowed. The VP of HR doesn’t f**k around with policy, and she is an uptight, stern b**ch, especially with corporate policy. You don’t want to make a career change if it is not the ‘right role’ for you, or for the company.

This is the most thorough CagePharma rely that I have ever read. Accurate too. Be careful the cutture will sneak up on you. HR cares about policy over excess billing of CMS I guess.

Much appreciation. This forum contains a lot of gossip. However, some good, and truthful, information can be gleaned from it. Especially if you can look past all the BS on here. If I can further that concept, then so be it.

If you end up working at kaleo, and especially if you've not worked in pharma before, then there are a few things to keep in mind. The company is relatively new, but it is squarely in the in the pharma industry and competing against a behemoth (Mylan). So there will almost always be some consistent amount of bad press about an investigation or a Senate/House inquiry. Also, there's the historical fact that the company hiked up their product's WAC prices really high (a few years back). Not that the WAC price matters to an end-user. But it makes for sensational journalism, so that kind of thing will never go away.

Also, the company is in a multi-million dollar legal battle with two of the biggest pharmaceutical benefits manager in the world over billing amounts: CVS Caremark and Express Script. Both benefit managers claim that kaleo breached a contract. kaleo says that it is the other way around. It is more than likely that the benefit managers will prevail. They have a stronger case, a much larger legal war chest to pull from, and a larger, better and highly tenured legal team to fight kaleo's 2 or 3 lawyers. Just some things to keep in mind

They will probably throw a decent amount of money at you for a salary, but money isn't everything. After a few months of working at kaleo, you'll see that the the grass is about the same as where you came from.
