Ok, so there is a rep in my area that wears scrubs in the field. To me this seems ridiculous. However as I sat there sweltering in my wool suit I was a bit jealous as I would love to walk around in my pajamas.

Any companies allowing pharma reps to wear scrubs? I know device reps do this since they are in and out of OR and patient homes, etc., but for pharma this seems ridonk.

    Thoughts?

My buddy sells knee injections and he always wears scrubs. Technically a med device job but its still 'pharma'. Otherwise I have never seen pharma reps in scrubs, at least in my area. we are the army of suits!

IN AZ they wear scrubs to get better access in hospitals and offices by "Blending in"

Our hospital reps wear scrubs because they blend better in the hospital. I have never seen a drug rep in an office with scrubs.

Yes many reps wear scrubs in the field specially if the offices are located inside the hospital or customers are nursing homes. It’s strange if you walk into a suit if you’re in a nursing home - they won’t talk to you! Many companies are starting to pick up on this called “mirroring.” There are some reps who push back because they lead with their look and sex appeal which is not what pharma should represent to begin with. Lily, Neurocrine, Astrazeneca, Avanir all allow reps with scrubs in the field. When you have to answer to God you will do the right thing and put patient care first.

I sell both in hospitals, wound care centers and hcp offices I do get looks when I walk into drs offices from other reps. When i just called on privated office, I would wear shirt tie etc Now I dont Dont judge what is worn unless you know what the job entails.

A few years ago, some Lily reps selling Forteo to Orthopedic Surgeons began wearing scrubs in their Houston District. Then it spread around. It is totally stupid.

Basically it was and is stupid. You don't have any business wearing scrubs if you don't go into the OR with the Surgeon.

And frankly, no one takes you seriously if you wear the same scrubs all day because its not hygenic at all. Can you imagine going into the OR after wearing scrubs all day, walking in and out of offices, in and out of your car?

No. Because real OR reps change at different hospitals.

Don't be a wannabe OR rep when you aren't. Sell drugs, wear real clothes.

If there is true reason like you are headed into an OR, fine. But if you are just strolling through the halls to sell your migraine med injection, take those damn scrubs off because you look like an idiot!!! I’d love to wear comfy scrubs and not have huge drycleaning bill but that’s not my job so suck it up and put on your suit.

You most likely are clueless where some of the best headache doctors perform their procedures for their migraine patients. Not speaking about your hometown neurologist. These are headache specialists. ( approx. 1 in 500 neurologist specialize in headaches only) but they are lifesavers for chronic migraine and headache patients and all they see are these type of patients all day every day.

In addition to other treatments they perform different nerve blocks for varying type of migraines and they do this on certain days in the OR of the hospital where they frequently hospitalize their patients...Now imagine why you would wear scrubs in the OR...to see the dr and talk about you migraine inj. It may not help every patients but if it helps 3 - everyone wins.
Please don't show up in a suit at the Jefferson Methodist Hospital .It's inappropriate. And don't listen to these idiots who want to save on drycleaning yet love wearing their newest
    fashions

Are any pharma reps who only call on private practices wearing scrubs since the pandemic hit? I do not but a rep in my area does and it seems inappropriate. We have zero reason to wear them but the other rep always does. We call on dermatology offices with acne products in our bag. The rep uses COVID as the excuse for dressing in scrubs.

It depends on your company. Some are instructing to wear clothes, including scrubs, you can easily throw into the washer when you get home. Most women's formal work wear needs to be dry cleaned.

Yes! Lots of reps are still wearing them. Especially females. I don’t see what the big deal is. For some, it’s better than seeing them in their short short skirts and ridiculous 4 inch heels.

As long as the scrubs are low cut and show me some J’s, I don’t mind

    Waaaahhh
    crybaby

He wears scrubs and has TWICE as many scripts as I have! He has unlimited access to ALL his and my doctors (because he wears scrubs, dumb ass.) & the docs LOVE HIM and not me!!! Waaaaahhh

SHUT THE FUCK UP AND SELL SOMETHING! Managers don’t care if you wear a toga and a snorkel mask as long as your numbers are good!

Ps - your not good enough to beat me at ANYTHING, I extended an olive branch ONCE. There won’t be a second time!

As a device rep who now wears scrubs every day, I can’t imagine wearing a suit into the hospital. Nothing makes people feel uncomfortable like wearing a suit into a hospital. I guess the office setting is different, but I still wouldn’t wear a suit if the people I’m meeting with aren’t in suits.

The biologic reps still wear scrubs in my area...apparently the Corona Virus doesn't get on scrubs??? Some of these people have strange fetish with wearing these scrubs and physicans don't get why they are doing it. Maybe since most of their job is delivering food this saves their clothes from getting messed up.

For all of those saying how ridiculous it is to wear scrubs in a non OR setting, try to at least put some perspective on it. A patient sees someone in a suit basically as someone who is getting in the way of them being seen on time. That same patient sees someone in scrubs come in and they most likely assume that you are a part of the clinic. It’s not a difficult concept and wish I would have been doing this ten years ago. My access has nearly doubled and put me in the top 5 each year since. Your job is to provide viable treatment options for patients, no matter what you wear, and if scrubs allow you better access, why wouldn’t you wear them?
