Why do all these “job search experts” always claim that you should follow up after an interview if you don’t hear anything???

Following up does not sway the hiring manager to actually hire you. It’s not like they are more willing to hire a person who follows up vs one who doesn’t. They hire the first choice candidate. So why follow up???

Just in case the first choice declines and you can be offered next. But otherwise great point.

No, you follow up to show them 1.) you are an aggressive go getter. 2.) simply,That you follow up. What if an office asks you a question and you give it to them? Don't you follow up to see if the answer you gave them helped them out? So then you can further your relationship w/ them.

Sometimes you may be the second best candidate. AZ has hired people for other territories or even the same territory that had interviewed before.

Yes this is true and also they have hired by nepotism which is the worst but you still need to show them you were the best anyway and follow up.

Follow up because you always take the high road and are better than then job being offer. If you don't get the job what have you lost on? Everyone knows the state of this Industry is horrible in 2020. If you get the job what are you being asked to do in Pharma currently? Lie all day, make some about fake numbers deal w/ petty managers that actually work against you. Not getting this job is more of a blessing than anything but that dosen't mean you stoop to Pharma level, follow up be the bigger person who cares if you don't get this go now where job.

At least at the end of the day you will know if you were productive or not. And, every time you go to sleep you will sleep easy knowing that you didn't have to lie to your employer all day about what you did. Pharma is not an Adult Job.

You're right. It isn't. BUT it is enticing due to the $ you can make with minimal effort.

And this is why every Pharma Rep job is expendable at anytime because upper management know it's an cake walk and easily replaceable. What's the point of making 100K a year if you are laid off for a year after working 2-3 years? You are not making 100K a year do the math after you figure in your lay-off time. If you work 3 years and are laid off/time to get another job is 1 you are NOT making 100K the average is 75K... and your bills still keep rolling forward so really your at 50K... It's a "Sucker Bet" you think you have. Since usually the Pharma Rep buys to much house, spends on vacations they shouldn't take and lives in a neighborhood they shouldn't be in because of the false sense of making a lot of money you shouldn't be making for the the low intellect that is required to do the daily job.
