Question Training

Curious about the upcoming training...when/where is it? Does it start Monday? Which products are the intact reps training on?

I was just hired last month from a college job fair. I graduate in Dec and was told by my HR contact to expect to train on up to 5 products. I am excited to be walking into a job right now with the way the job market is for graduating seniors. Does anyone know what type of cars will be offered for next year?

Please go away and do not post on this board again. Do you have any idea what is going on right now. Do you have any idea the insensitivity of your comment about a car during this time of people that have been with the company for years losing their jobs. NO you don't. You may think your lucky, but there are many that consider themselves lucky to be getting OUT!

Although the above poster may be a bit harsh, he/she is right. To the OP- be VERY CAREFUL about what you say and how you act. You are EXTREMELY lucky to have a job and you also need to know that MANY of us have been laid off over the past 2 years, with more to come. SO many laid off reps are the sole bread winner and have been doing this as their career for a very long time- 10-20-30 years. So- please understand the environment you are walking in to- where most reps are worried about simply keeping their jobs and you are worried about what type of car you will get. Save it for your manager- you'll get no where with us reps looking down the barrel of the layoff gun. Sorry, but that's the reality of Merck/SP right now.

So, do you train at home part time and maintain your current sales portfolio part time?

Not so sure, Merck is still hiring and the training center is still open.

My first boss told me to be just as nice to the people I meet on the way down as I was to the people I met on the way up. You never know-the OP may someday be interviewing YOU as you try to grovel your way back into an entry level pharma rep job.

I was also hired at a college job fair last month. I am in Dallas, TX. Have you heard from your manager yet? When offered the job they said would be training on up to 5 products.

Have you been told you are a contract employee, or Merck employee? It sounds as if Merck hired you which is kind of funny with all that is going on.

It would be funny if it weren't so sad (if true.) To the posters that say they were hired recently from college I want you to reflect on what's happening. Merck is "displacing" -our pc word for laying off- many many many good and bad reps. Many, not all, are hard working who have been with the company for 5, 10, 25 years- and have done a lot of good for Merck. Unfortunately Merck no longer sees the value in these experienced reps and throws them out. In comes our new college graduates. You are excited to have your first job, making decent money, and don't really understand why the hate. What you need to understand is that after a few years you too will be in the bucket of older, experienced reps, doing good for the company, and you too will be expendable just like we are. SO- my advice, take the job and all the while continue to look for another career. Seriously, have an exit plan before Merck has one for you. Trust us, the vast majority of the field reps understand this.

I was hired at the same college job fair it sounds like. Did you agree to relocate outside of TX. I told them I wanted to stay in town as this is where family was. Have you got any training materials yet? I am worried that it may be too hard, ha, ha. My degree is in Criminal Justice, but did have some college biology.

Merck policy 41 prohibits active employees from posting information on internet sites.

Thank you

Training is a much a joke this year as last year. Micromanaged and can't even print out the materials on MRK printers. Do I look like I have time to hang out at KINKOs???

They are trying to save money by having us all around the country in the printing stores. This will cost more.

Say what? I work for Merck but have nothing to do with the training. They are doing WHAT what have trainees copy materials? This seems very unprofessional. Merck has really downgraded their training program it sounds like. I did hear something about more home training, but everyone is doing that. I also did not know they were hiring so many college grads. I have a friend that was hired out of UF two weeks ago at a job fair.

Thousands of reps in thousands of towns are spending thousands of hours visiting thousands of Kino's stores spending thousands of dollars doing the job that a handful of people in a comfortable corporte office refuse to do but should be doing to train there fellow employees.

I do not know but I believe this is not being handled well. What do you think?

Took all of three minutes in Kinkos. Five minutes to save files (baackgrounders) at home to thumbdrive.........minute and ahalf to drop off in AM.....minute and a half to pick up after work. The problem with this company is we didn't keep the bright people.

This is a policy violation, you cannot leave training materials with anyone outside Merck

Looks like you flunked the first test at Merck. You are not allowed to just leave the training materials with a Kinko/Fed-x employee. You are suppose to do all the copy work yourself. This stuff is proprietary to Merck ONLY! If this is found to be sold off and tracked back it is your ass on the line oh it only take three minutes.

That was a dumb move on your part. Would you leave the Merck computer with anyone outside of Merck? I hope not. Why would you leave a confidential document with a Kinko's employee? Send out a voice mail to your manager about this tactic and see how fast they fire you.
