How is access for everyone? My manager came into the OR with me and all of a sudden the director hates me. Are other areas experiencing this still. Most of my hospitals are still very sensitive to being present and need an appt essentially

I never understood the need for a manager to come into the OR with me (other than they are trying to legitimize their existence).

Especially with Covid. Most accounts don't want us in there unless it is absolutely necessary. They definitely don't want a worthless manager to take up space right now in the OR.

Did the director know you were bringing your manager or do you just show up with him/her?

My access is better but still very monitored and very strict with rules. One being specific business need for being in the OR and making appointments. Your director is rightfully angry. Why did your manager put you in this position anyway. Covid numbers are the highest they have ever been. Shocking that there are managers even doing that right now. What region are you in?

Better but managers in my area are not having any customer interaction. Sounds like you might have a tone deaf manager. Cases are soaring
 


Your manager is a rookie. Take a look at the new COVID cases. Worst it’s ever been. Report him or her to their boss or the credo hotline. Seriously, this is the kind of stuff That gets us all restricted.

That is asinine. They can ban, restrict, or limit anyone they choose to. Most likely they have a covid / vendor policy in place. I’ve had to acknowledge them for every single hospital via the credentialing websites.

Yes, she should be angry but not near as angry as I would be as a rep. It’s wreckless behavior with cases as high as they are. Face to face contact should be prohibited until this pandemic is over. Reps need to do their job and have a need to be in the OR. Anyone else shouldn’t be “tagging” along potentially spreading the virus. Someone is going to get seriously ill.

It is simple really. 1 Ethicon person should be in the OR max. Not an additional person from the company whether that be a partner, manager, or anyone. It's a fact that SSI risks are increased with multiple people in the room. It cannot be ignored and you cannot claim ignorance. Honestly, it should be an Ethicon policy to protect the patients. Those who ignore it should be reported.

This pandemic will change the way we behave in accounts forever.

Something should change the way you behave in accounts....it’s sad that it took a pandemic to even raise the issue

I hope you are joking. I know of hospitals that have already implemented a no manager or trainee policy. Whether that is rolled out more often, who knows. But, I doubt Ethicon wants any liability by increasing SSI's to patients so an internal policy change to keep managers out of the OR is likely to police ourselves. Like the above poster said it would be hard to claim ignorance and its a lawsuit waiting to happen. C Suite meetings I'm sure will be fine.

Like it or not the future will look different. I'm just ready for this year to be done!

This is something that will be enforced and Ethicon already knows the risks that everyone is pointing out on this thread. Surgical site infections are so serious to patients that having more than 1 employee in an OR is just asking for trouble. All patients have to do is look for the deepest pockets and discover who was in the room. Right or wrong, the liability is is there.

To be honest, this policy change won't affect business in the slightest anyway, so why be concerned?

When is anyone from Ethicon ever in the OR anyway? Only when their manager is with them....hence the problem
 


Can anyone confirm if Ethicon has made this policy change that limits OR access to reps only? With lawsuits that arise from SSI's would I be exempt as a rep supporting the case? My prior company said yes but did not allow our managers go into the OR for liability reasons. Not to mention the optics.
