Hey there party people...

serious question for y'all...I am in my late 50s and after getting pushed out of my pharma sales job at the age of 50, (after 25 pretty good years) I am really struggling...hemorrhaging my savings, selling everything that is not nailed down (including my house which is now gone) and surviving by the skin of my teeth...

Has anyone taken courses in medical billing after being chewed up and spit out by the Big Pharma Meat Grinder, and made a go of a career in medical billing...I know it is pretty boring probably, but if you could do it part time, or from home, it may be a decent late-in-life vocation?

Any info that can be given would be greatly appreciated...serious replies please....

thanks...

I know it has been a while since you posted but I thought I share my research on the topic. I am also in my 50s and considering medical coding. I looked into the courses and certification (which is required now a day for a higher paying job) and the cost ranges from $2,500 - $2,999 for the course. After the course you can sit for the exam but the course is required. I am current looking into insurance adjusting (workers comp) and having a medical coding license would give me an edge on the competition. I know how you are feeling, I left pharma a year ago and am working in a hospital in another capacity and looking for work from home situation.

Hopefully, by now you have landed somewhere, please post and left me know what you have figured out because I am still trying to figure this out myself.

Thanks very much for your reply...I have decided that medical coding would be too mind numbing for me at this point, and also a reminder of the pharma/medical industry that I left behind...

I have reduced my expenses down as much as possible, (I have no health insurance and am nearing 60) and get by with giving music lessons here and there, and selling things I find in thrift stores and flea markets on Ebay...(Life got tougher....)

It is a far cry from my days eating at the best restaurants, and flying to Europe every year for vacations...I have fallen about as far as one can...But I just outgrew the Big Pharma madness, could no longer drink the Kool - Ade and woke up spiritually to how broken and corrupt the health care system is here in the US.

I put faith in myself but more so my creator to keep me somewhat above water and free of true poverty...I wish you the best of luck in your future career endeavors, whatever they should be...Bless you...
