Atorvastatin Recall: Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Inc. is conducting a voluntary recall for Atorvastatin calcium tablets, in connection with its 10mg 20mg and 40mg dosage strengths, packaged in 90’s and 500 count bottles and only with respect to certain select lot numbers. The recall does not affect or relate to the 80mg strength. The recall is being conducted at the retail level for such select batches that may contain a foreign substance (small glass particles approximately less than 1mm in size). Ranbaxy is proactively recalling the drug product lots out of an abundance of caution, and in keeping the safety of our customers in mind. This recall is being conducted with the full knowledge of the U.S. FDA.
No kidding!! If you know anything about Drug Recalls, you will know that this is a face saving action for the company. I wonder how this will impact the committments made by Ranbaxy in the consent decree. I guess they never learn
As long as the senior management and senior manufacturing/ QA people don't change, this company is not going anywhere. The Consent Decree, FDA, DOJ investigations, and the fines none have given any learning lesson so far, it is the same old story.
Let them eat cake, or in this case, glass! CNN story says patients have NOT been told to stop having the glass-laced Ranbaxy atorvastatin pills they already have: http://www.cnn.com/2012/11/27/health/generic-lipitor-recall/index.html?hpt=hp_t3
