I have been told, point blank, that I am not able to be moved up in our company. I am not a diversity candidate. My numbers, experience, leadership training, and education mean nothing as I don’t fit the profile our company wants to move into higher positions.
One on hand I can say for people that have historically felt marginalized by the system I feel bad for them. It’s not fair. The world owes you an apology for past wrongdoings.
However, the pendulum has swung so far in the opposite direction that merit means nothing. We need to focus on the best candidates for hire and promotion. I am all for diversity. In fact, I have a mixed heritage. You can’t tell that from looking at me though so it doesn’t matter.
