This is not a sales job anymore.

All corporate jobs today are not sales anymore. Nope. They are just corporate BS jobs. Tracking us with cell phones, emails, unreasonable quotas.

If you love sales, go do real estate or something more dynamic like software sales.

Pharmaceutical/Medical sales is over. Its a high paying bad job. And it is not sales.

good day.

You are of course....100% correct. It's check the box time. I was in pharma sales from 1982 until 2013.
Really not many road blocks back then. I did have several doctors ask me...if I write your product, what will you do for me? I did tell my boss, and he told me to Delete them. Many were from other countries.

The drugs I sold over the years with 3 different companies. Marion Labs, Parke-Davis, AstraZeneca

Cardizem, Carafate, Seldane, Allegra,NicoDerm, Accupril, Lipitor, Rezulin, Nexium, Atacand, Toprol-XL, Crestor.

Really a fun time.

thanks for your reply.

If you were in the game today, where would you go? What industry?

Pharma isn’t sales but a lot of medical especially capital is . Get out of the lunch delivery game and battle it out for PO’s.

thanks for the feedback.

I just want to get back into sales. This pharmaceutical crap is just killing me with all the micromanagement and NOT a results oriented structure.

also, I can't stand how this industry promotes people that don't know how to sell.

its a corporate mess all the way. I am happy to have figured it out at least. now, its time to move on.

Do you have any other industry recommendations?

Thanks.

I'm replying to my post about being is sales a long time...3 different companies.

I would look into companies that have something (drug, device) that is main player in their market. So, docs would probably calling you. Especially, weight loss area, and memory type products. Consumers, create the demand for these products. Plus search the internet on new things coming to market. My salary when in started, in the 80's was $25K, when i retired at AZ in 2013...it was $102K

I guess I am just lost at this point in my career. The micromanagement is out of control these days. And producing is just not enough to keep them off my back.
Probably time to just pack it in and retire. Downsize and retire. My enthusiasm has been curbed to the point where I do see myself as the slave and they are benefiting from my labor X 10. Not sure what jobs to apply to anymore, except ones that don't require overnight travel and have good management. Unfortunately, I am finding that about 90 percent of managers these days are downright terrible. And most of the better jobs want overnight travel on a weekly basis.
I hate to be negative here, but it's really a mess out there right now. Economy is bad. Most jobs are just not paying what we are worth as salespeople, when you consider all the running around and nonsense that we have to deal with.

It's the worst industry on the planet, when you consider the con they are pulling on a gullible public that still thinks people in a white lab coat are intelligent. The jab narrative proved how healthcare is compromised. Yet, most don't see it. This is why this industry loves hiring stupid people, especially recent graduates that have no clue how the world works or about profit motives in an industry that doesn't look out for patients first, but rather money first.

I'm the same person who replied before. If you live in an area where most don't have over nights, then try to get the best job in your area....Then do your best to get the Office Staff to help you, see the doc. I know it won't be easy. Plus in my career, I did apporx. 2,500 lunches or breakfasts....that's 2 per week. Good luck. I'm 66 years old now, and made $2.8 million in my working career and have $2 million in assests now. I have never had a car payment and had my mortgage paid off 25 years ago. My dad was right you can live better without any debt.

you had a good run.
I know of men that have passed away in their 40s and 50s from the stress (OR sales), so the money is not more important than health, of course.

I just don't see how anyone working in today's hyper micromanaged and low standard of accountability in management these days, can really say that they love their job. Sure, the pay is good to do other things in life, but they don't like their work. No way.

I have been in the game over 20 years, and once you get past year 20, you can have seen it all. I know what I am talking about. Also, I think there are better sales jobs that might pay slightly less than medical sales, but offer far more integrity, career advancement, and are not micromanaged. I think the smarter people are in these jobs and really wouldn't consider medical sales because they can see the nonsense of it all.

Well, we all make choices in life. So each person will have to list the "pros" and "cons" of each job.
So, I left pharma and now I sell stents for the heart and such. The docs still want me to see, them and give me the plus and minus of each product. I do go in the cath lab about 3x per month. And the Pay is excellent. Plus no BS from the boss or mgt.

Thanks for sharing.

It's good to see that there still are some companies that value their employees.

If you can’t quantify in dollars what you did at end of day, week or month it’s not sales… if everything you do is subjective per last conversation w/ a customer it’s pretty much BS….all day everyday.

time for the above poster to quit....no it's not perfect, what many of my docs want to see me...sorry loser!

thanks for proving our point that it’s not sales. Just because an md sees you doesn’t mean you sold anything just means maybe you are a nice guy. So how much $$$& did he buy?? You just don’t know you loser….!

Me at 18: Learn about real estate development and don't go to college to work for another person or company.

The fact that once great companies like Amgen and Merck are not hiring HIGH SCHOOL grads confirms this to be true.

Sad state of affairs. I guess the victory goes to those that can better understand the "tricks" of this culture. Don't get duped by "education" or "religion" or other traditional ideas of making money.

The richest person I personally know has over 500 units of apartment units and can barely speak English. He bought a 1.5M mansion a few years ago, that is worth 5M now. Never went to college, and came to the United States with about 1K.

Carry on.

If a doc wants to see me, that is great....I get a chance to sell my product...plus I'm 2nd in the region in sales.....Do the letters M & F mean anything to you?
