Other major companies announce the layoff date and number of employees to be affected well in advance. We still don't have a number although everyone thinks it will be 50%.
Other companies also offer tenured employees an incentive to leave early and have a "raise your hand" period to ask for those who want to get the severance instead of continuing on. All of these practices lead to a more trusting environment and one where employees feel the company has done everything to retain the most employees possible.
What is going to happen here is that 50% of the reps will be cut, and many of the reps retained will leave within three months because they don't like how this was handled, they don't like the overweighted bag, their new managers, new territory, new comp, etc.
