I think in BS's case, the question would be, "Would you encourage a person whom have no value to you other than to use and abuse?"

Boogalou, you actually have to have at least 1 friend to answer this poll. You are hereby disqualified from participating in the discussion further.

But, but, you're my friend aren't you? By the way I talked to my boss about that job opening. Send me your resume!

Cry me a river. Nobody asked you about why this job has been "ruined". I hear your kind of whining here on CP every other post for the last 5 years I've been here. If any one is miserable, it's you, projecting your inadequacies unto happy me.

You make me sick. You think you are saving the world in this job? You're a fucking pill pusher!!! The benefits of this job are what YOU make of it. How dare you judge me!!!!

If you want to save the world, go start your own business, or work for a charity. I want to push pills, make bank, and possibly help people. How dare you judge me!!!!!!!

You know nothing about me, and I'll bet my next 10 years' of big micromanaged paychecks that I've got more "experience" and education than you. So, keep your stupid opinions and judgments to yourself. Or be a man and whine to your CEO and make a difference in your "career".

Instead, like a typical loud mouthed pussy, you whine here and try to make people who work for a living feel inadequate because their career doesn't rise up to the godly idealic level of your dreams. FUCK YOU!!!!! Go start a fucking church or something!!! How do I feel about it, huh?

How predictable a response. I said your response would be immature and guess what?!?!? It was.

Everyone reading this knows you're loser, I know you're a loser and the saddest part is...you know you're a loser. How do you live with yourself?

Thanks for re-bumping this thread and my poignant post. Again, you are so arrogant, you can't even see it. Tilt your head forward so you can stop looking down your nose at us 'loser' pharma reps, please. The only thing "predictable" is your arrogance. Like I said, go start a church or 503 org. and leave us 'immature' 'loser' reps alone here on CP. Feeling good about yourself, Frasier?

Would you encourage a friend to go into pharmaceutical sales?
With the current state of the industry, instability, layoffs, etc.

Nope, I would encourage them to go into the porn industry or prostitution. The job would be more satisfying and they would have more respect. I retired from the industry in '99 and when asked what I did I always replied that I played piano in a whore house.

It took 6 months of working in pharma to realize that i had made a mistake. I have been here 2yrs now.....every day i physically get sick when i think of all the useless crap i have to do for my workday. i have spent all my free time these past two yrs building a contruction business and landscaping company, I figure 4months more and I will leave pharma for good. I cant speak for anyone else but pharma was a big waste of time and my dignity, I made the best of it and it looks like, it is about to payoff.

Pharma for most is just a job. Like most jobs, 6-12 months in and its boring. Even if you own your own business, its still work, AND WORK SUCKS. Thats what so great about pharma, if yoy work smart, it leaves plenty of time for FAMILY AND PLAY. That is what life is about, not work. For anyone who gets the self satifaction from work need serious therapy. It does not matter pharma sales, vacuum cleaner sales or working in an office 9-5, it is still a job-WORK

I am only 23 and started working for AstraZeneca a while back. I think it is a great job and industry to be in. I graduated from college last year and had no sales experience. No one else I know that is my age makes what I make. Most of my sorority sisters want me to try to get them hired now.

This is what it's all about. New ass at training and POAs. Best part of the job. You can't put a price on it.

ANNNNNNNNNNNNND now the industry is in the shitter. I wonder why? Nothing smacks of a cream of the crop industry with hires like this.

I wouldn't encourage an ambitious guy who plans on being the sole provider for a family. I would encourage a female who has no ideas of ever moving above sales rep. It is a great job at the sales rep (2nd income) level. Beyond that...it pretty much sucks.

The only way I would refer a friend to this industry is if they needed a somewhat decent job while they continued to look for something else. After about 6 months, most intelligent ppl are bored to tears doing the pharma gig. It really is ridiculous when you think about it. All of the lying, pretending you work harder than you truly do, phony success stories, fake calls to meet the metric, faking an 7.5/8 hr work day it starts to take a toll.

The funny thing is I don't have any friends who want into this industry. I am going for a real career while I am still young enough to do so. I feel really sorry for the 40+ year olds I see out in territory "repping" their way to retirement. It looks so pathetic seeing them beg a 20something, barely educated gatekeeper for access to an office, so they can get a sec of the doc's time for a quick sig. This is the truth. I see it so many times a day and I don't want to be that person over 40 praying my company doesn't let me go any day and having to apply at another pharma comp for the same sorry gig. And the truth is another pharma co probably won't hire that older more experienced rep because they could easily get young girl right out of college who would do the job for about 35-40K a year.

Yup, this is the best job out there, pound for pound.

I think the docs are addicted to our over-sampling them for the last 5 years or so. My worry is that they turn us all into part-timers and expect the same amount of calls to sample like we do now.

That is coming sooner than you know. Part-time with a small car allowance is being heavily considered by several pharma co. The decision makers alreadly know the bulk of calls are made between 10-2 Tue-Thurs. Think about it...they could cut cost tremendously by making the job strictly part time without bennies and $300-500/mth car allowance. I bet several analysts and consultants are "running the numbers" right now to determine if it will be worth it for the pharm cos to maximize their profit with a new business model that includes only p/t reps. Most reps will stay on because they don't have any other choices.
