Why anyone would work a full day for Merck in 2013
is beyond me?? The company is run by liars and cheats
and I am supposed to be a good little foot soldier and
play fair?

This is (and was) always a part time gig...Even back in the
day when doctors would actually take time with us, it was
not something you could do for a full day, week after week,
year after year...

this is a dead end burnout gig...If you have not realized it
yet, you are right where you belong...Big pharma catering...

You sound like just another liar and cheat to me. Are you taking half the salary for half the work? I doubt it. Your little thread doesn't absolve you of your dishonesty because you have made your intentions public.

I was a pharma rep for about 9 years. I wanted to get into this great job(or so I thought) because everyone talked about how great it was. The pay and benefits were suppose to be top notch and I had successful copier sales experience. I love to work...as weird as it sounds to some. Working 40 hours in pharma is almost impossible. With such short call plan lists, no sees, low sample supplies etc even if you try to work 9-5 you CAN'T. I worked more hours than most and was a pretty good rep and trying to even get this job to 30 hrs a week is nearly impossible. If this job regularly takes you anywhere near 40 hours/week you probably need to reevaluate your time and efficiency. Even at the end with all the bs paperwork it wasn't anywhere near a 40 hour job. Its a tough pill to swallow for people who actually want to work. sadly the whole industry from the top down is just a big scam. the dco, to ctl, to reps. I couldn't take it anymore and finally left a few years ago for a better opportunity.

Now out of pharma, happy working more and making more!!!!!!!

Lets go with because you keep cashing the pay checks and they keep sending them to you. I think that would be a great reason no matter what you think of whoever. What do you tell your family, I dont work hard because the president of the company is a liar. Lets go to dinner kids on the check they sent me though. Oh but your the ethical one!!

Yo, douche. We know (about the part time).

Sorry about the layoff (oops, did I let that slip...)

Oh, and the Doc know too (about the douche thingy)

(or didn't you notice they spend less and less time with you...)

I come no where close to four Merck hours per day. I'm working a 1099 position on Merck's time and using their RFM $ and company car. I've nearly matched my Merck base salary with the 1099 income after only one year!

Any guilt from me? Not a chance. Merck has screwed thousands of us over. Payback is a bite in the shorts. It's poetic justice.

It really is hard to work a legitimate 40 hour week. The only reps who come close are those who have large geographies and have to drive 2-3 hours to get to an office. Does Merck know it's paying big salaries for windshield time?

Great post and glad to hear you got out of toxic pharma into a real profession...I am the OP and you reinforced the points I was trying to make...I too, actually like working hard, and pharma made in impossible for me to do so...The work is pretty much all made up these days just to justify the huge, bloated management infrastructure...I really hate doing phony work that has no real point to it...

As I said in the original posting, the job was always part time at best...The execs know that better than anyone since they do far less than most...
