Merck gets 10:30 to 2:30 from me...That is it!

What is a 1099 position, a contract rep?

It's a job that pays a straight commission. You pay your own taxes, submit a Schedule C for Business Income...

It's the best thing I've ever done. And I'm pleased beyond words to be sticking it to the company that has stuck it to so many of my coworkers.

FU Merck. FU.

1030-230 sounds exactly like my former managers schedule. He had every reason to show up late for meetings and ride alongs. Not to mention all the times he had to be home by 4 to accommodate all of his children's activities even though he had a stay at home wife. The whole company is ran on false activities to justify everyone's existence.

I think "Merck" is Portuguese for "one big lie".

You sound like just another liar and cheat to me. Are you taking half the salary for half the work? I doubt it. Your little thread doesn't absolve you of your dishonesty because you have made your intentions public.

If you don't work full time and take a full time paycheck you probably believe in entitlement. Yep...handouts...and shame on you. Your mama and papa should have taught better.

If you don't work full time and take a full time paycheck.... you're probably a hell of a lot smarter than the Merck rep that wrote the statement above.

Wake up, moron. The job is fake. You could go on sabbatical for a year and your sales wouldn't change a bit, not that you would ever know, since the sales figures you're given are as phony as every other part of this job.

It would seem, from what I have read on these boards, that the primary goal of the Merck sales force is to simply game the system. Get paid as much as possible for as little work as you can get away with. The ones that do this well, likely feel as though they have accomplished much in their job and are probably not boasting about it. Those of you here, bragging or bitching are probably not that successful at it and these boards are the only place you can vent your frustrations at your own inadequacies. For those individuals coming to these boards to figure out how they can do it, are already a lost cause. But please don't stop, you bring so much comic relief to my week. I particularly enjoy the "FU MERCK" gang because they are such sad saps.

Speak for yourself numbnuts. What you're reading is the frustration and angst of an entire sales force. You want to go out there and bust your butt only to get crapped on, go ahead. Some of us have watch the disintegration of what used to be a great company. Now all we get is a bunch of dishonest, greed hungry, selfish pigs providing leadership. What's that leadership look like? Huge bonuses for them and layoffs for us.

Wake up and smell the coffee jerkoff. If I had known what I know now about how this would have turned out I would never have gotten into pharma sales. Besides, we can't do much anyway. It's all managed care access, generics, and ACA right now. We have very little in the way of valuable resources, so yeah, it's all about hanging on. If you don't want to, beat it. And I don't mean your penis either.

Oh yeah, and FU Merck

Guess you didn't know much to start with and probably not much more now. So if you can't beat 'em join 'em cause you don't come across any better than those you criticize. Why aren't you focused on your lucrative career now, rather than lurking around these boards. You sir still make me laugh and it's not with you.

reality for 99% of reps , 9:00 to 3:00 is all you need, sure might stretch a day till after 4pm if waiting room has good magazines or some eye candy to talk to , really why aggravate docs seeing them when they first come in or when they are ready to come home and still have pts to see.

People have been out of thei territories for various reasons as sickness, jury duty etc. and no one even notices and the numbers remain the same. Interesting?

Vacant territories are often at the top for sales, I can't believe no one has figured out that we don't help sales much. They should do a pilot where doctors are not called on at all. Even if sales or market share fell a little, the company would still be saving a ton of money not paying for reps.

Merck actually tried that years ago w Propecia. Certain territories did not promote it, just relied on DTC advertising. I was surprised that it didn't work. Territories that promoted it did much better.

If you have competition you must be there like clock work. Skip a week or two and the competitors are there in packs and offering buckets of samples. Anyone thinking they can depend on DTC advertising is beyond stupid and probably very lazy.

Wow, you have a really important job! You must look at yourself longingly in the mirror.

DTC pharma ads are like an invitation for patients to run or think about who they can sue..Small print and fast talking babble is a sure way to creep out TV watchers....so a rep who thinks DTC is saving the day is probably on drugs themselves. Laughable.

Thinking DTC doesn't work is laughable.

That's why some products market share is hardly affected when a territory is vacant. Yes some products do require a rep. Usually new products. Reps have an impact...its just small in the scheme of things when it comes to pharma.

DTC gets the patients thinking about whether there is a better diabetes drug, hypertension etc. Also why do you think mood stabilizing drug scripts have gone thru the roof??? All the dtc

I come no where close to four Merck hours per day. I'm working a 1099 position on Merck's time and using their RFM $ and company car. I've nearly matched my Merck base salary with the 1099 income after only one year!

Any guilt from me? Not a chance. Merck has screwed thousands of us over. Payback is a bite in the shorts. It's poetic justice.

FU MERCK

You can quit Merck and work on your highly profitable 1099 job. Don't justify your cheating by saying Merck screws you and so it is okay. Don't rationalize it as a payback either.

I seem to belong to a region where we are always offered as guinea pigs so the director could look good. In the old days bonus was guaranteed 100% as they experimented on us. Now they said we do as we wish even if it impacts on your bonus and you can leave if you don't like it.

...every listen to the fast talk PI points on all the TV ads? Ever see the small print flashed up? Both are scary turnoffs to plenty of consumers. Heck, we all have F&F who comment on these things...

As for mood drugs. Too many people want to pop a pills to change any little unhappy feeling that comes upon them...Something is wrong on a much larger scale when half the population is taking mood pills. Its like trying to find inner contentment in a bottle!

Oh, no, DTC doesn't work at all. That's why no one is doing it. I can't remember ever seeing a DTC ad...except for every time I open any magazine or watch any TV show.

Idiot.
