New Novartis role model creates crazy jobs: "Director of Inspiration"
Michelle Weese took over global communications command at the pharmaceutical giant in 2023.

Before joining the top ranks of Novartis, she got a taste of life at Bristol Myers Squibb, another pharmaceutical multinational.
Weese is causing quite a stir at Novartis. Barely at the helm, she ousted Willi's longtime number two.
Two other Willi seniors, namely the woman responsible for internal communications and a comms warhorse, were let go by Weese.
Anything that smacked of Willi's personality had to go.
The remaining team members, many of them 45 and older, had to reapply for their old positions in the Novartis PR and Communications team.
"Terminator" Weese, conversely, created jobs out of fantasy for those she particularly valued.
For example, under Weese, there is now a new "Director of Inspiration."
Operation "Deforestation" has led to severe damage to the Rhine knee. According to a source, no one remains from the old media team.
The example of a Novartis spokesperson, well-known and respected in the industry, who was close to journalists at the Basel headquarters and provided communications support for important general meetings, speaks volumes.
He was transferred internally, after years in the job and, for a long time, previously held the title of Chief Media Officer.
Conversely, communications positions are springing up like mushrooms in New Jersey. The head of the communications team for the entire Novartis finance division is now based at the Novartis subsidiary there.
This is surprising, given that the Basel-based giant's Chief Financial Officer remains based at its headquarters in the tri-border region.

"The newly created Corporate Affairs organization combines the Global Public Affairs, Communications & Engagement, and Global Health & Sustainability teams into a cohesive, coordinated unit," writes a spokesperson.
"The role helps advance Novartis's focused strategy, which focuses on the four core therapeutic areas of oncology, immunology, cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic diseases (CRM), and neuroscience."
"Most of the global communications functions are located in Basel, Switzerland, the home of our global headquarters and a key hub in our worldwide network."
"We are proud of our geographical presence in Corporate Affairs, which includes colleagues in Switzerland and many countries around the world. We are leveraging this global reach to advance our strategy of rethinking medicine together."
