I requested a transfer to a department she had no control over due to her aggressive behavior. The regional director scheduled a meeting with me and we started the process. During the meeting the regional director asked me about my goals. I told her I only wanted to transfer. I briefly spoke about my original goal which was to take over a job but that was no longer my plan. The transfer required I stay in my new position for a minimum of 1 year. So, I told the director I would be leaving as soon as I was vested with the company. Suddenly the conversation shifted, and the director offered me a job. The director said I had lost focus over the last few years. Missed deadlines, lots of sick days, vacation request, and most of all would often fail to return emails/phone calls in a timely manner. All I had to do was sign the offer letter and I could start in 2 weeks.

I work hear for a few years and I know from experience that it can take some time for HR or your direct supervisor to approach you. In rule violation situations, they will do some preliminary fact-finding before discussing the situation with you directly. I don't mean that they are necessarily trying to build a case against you; they just don't want to approach you unless it appears that what the manager says is legitimate. They will check gps to make sure it's true. They also have to document everything they do because pharma firms are very careful when it comes to their hiring and firing process. That documentation process can take some time as well.
So I wouldn't resign. Best case scenario, this all blows over. Worst case, since it's just an internship, even if they decide to fire you, you can just not put it on your resume. Won't help or hurt you.
