MSLs at Abbvie

The Med Affairs in Abbvie is a joke. I can't speak to any place but Immunology. They are micromanaged, metriced to insane numbers, script and certify on scripted pieces of medical literature. Either you hire competent clinicians or sales folks that can be scripted. It's an insult to anyone who has been an MSL and never dealt with this BS.
 


There are some extremely talented MSLs with great clinical and research experience. Unfortunately, as others have pointed out, they are treated and deployed like glorified sales reps - ridiculous metrics, scripted discussion topics. The only company I have ever worked at where MSLs were unable to attend advisory boards (even medical advisory boards) - ridiculous!!
 


I am happy to respond to this post. Per others comments, there are an incredibly talented group of MSL’s throughout various therapeutic areas at Abbvie. But most are incredibly unhappy now, held to metrics that parallel to what the sales teams must hit and many are on medical leave at this time because they couldn’t take it anymore. It’s an awful division to work for. Think about another company if you’re truly wanting “scientific”
 


We hired these jokers from Pfizer who couldn’t launch Xeljanz to launch Rinvoq. It’s a joke.. anyone who launched Humira knows how to do this. Scripting medical professionals is like sending them to middle school. People leaving in droves, I see some litigation against these people for discrimination on age and color too.
 


Worst company ever for Medical. You are a glorified sales rep with a script. Who the hell scripts doctors — Abbvie. You are no more than Ryan DeMasi or Brandee’s monkey and circus. Fuckers brought the Xeljanz bullshit to a good culture and turned it into Trump 2.0 dictatorship. Stay the fuck away.

One of the worst places to work as an MSL. It's like they expect you to swim fast in an ocean, but with your hands tied behind your back. Ridiculous metrics with so much red tape that make it difficult to meet your numbers. They should see how MSLs from other companies function and take note. What a joke of a company.
 






Sales metrics are ridiculous. Just there so in case they want to fire you, they have all the cause that they would need. They know full well that we are not seeing 6-7 HCP/day. That is absolutely unrealistic and has absolutely no bearing on sales growth. It’s an antiquated model that they use because it’s easy to get rid of people. They don’t like, anybody who disagrees popular opinion that’s going on with management at the time. It’s part of the downfall of this job but just give them what they want, stay somewhere in the middle of the pack and they will leave you alone. Play the game!!!!!
 


Honestly worst run team in the industry. I left a while back after the Ryan DeMasi and John Drum/ Greg Markley fiasco. Their regional directors just give orders like V Jasion and E Dian. Horrible leadership and they don’t have your back ever.
