rep future

Keep believing that sandwich boy. What drives business is medical journal studies/articles, formulary approval/3rd party payment, KOL support (99% don't see sales reps), TV advertising, sampling (easily accomplished through AI marketing), and most importantly drugs that have unique advantages (per package insert) versus brand and generic competitors (more funds are needed in R&D!). Sorry buddy, the pharma market is no longer the 1970s! We in Finance have been making a very strong case to cut the sales force by at least 75%! Have fun at Jimmy Johns!
You're doing a great job because we're still here. Maybe you should work on your sales pitch, nerd.

SORRY BUT TRUTH MATTERS. REPS ARE SIMPLY NOT RESPECTED BY THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY. BE HONEST, HOW MANY DOCTORS DO YOU ACTUALLY PROVIDE A SALES PITCH TO IN A GIVEN DAY? I WILL MAKE AN INFORMED GUESS => ZERO!!! THE WHOLE SALES INFRASTRUCTURE FROM INCENTIVE, TRAINING, MANAGEMENT, MSL, AND LOWLY FIELD REP IS A RELIC FROM 30 YEARS AGO. RUN FOREST RUN!

We all know this post is accurate. Why does management continue to ignore the reality of pharma marketing 2025? Suggest they lack bold and decisive management skills.

On the contrary, stay as long as you can, make as much money as you can, get a nice side gig, and know that you’re working way less than 40 hours a week to make more than probably 90% of the population out there. For 30 years they’ve been talking about getting rid of this relic. It has never happened and probably never will. So many posts on this site claiming the end of the sales rep, but let’s be completely honest, we all find somewhere else to work eventually. If they didn’t have to pay a salesforce or district managers, drug companies, profits would be so ridiculous. It would cause an uproar in the public. Could you imagine if they didn’t have to pay any salaries whatsoever? No insurance no car allowances nothing. People still need the drugs. My guess is they probably raise the price.

THE TRUTH!!!! We are basically write offs in the long run.

THE TRUTH!!!! We are basically write offs in the long run.
As someone that knows people from consulting agencies that we spend too much money on (for example, ZS Consulting), I can say that this sounds exactly what I've been told. We (including salaries, benefits and expense accounts) are big write offs. Shoot, in this industry overall more money is spent on marketing and advertising drugs than R&D.

The truth is that our sandwich boys/girls are an EXPENSE! Canning the reps will enable significant $s to be channeled into R&D (investment in the future), ready cash for acquisitions/partnerships, more efficient and quality USA manufacturing factories, and high ROI TV / AI advertising. Truth matters that doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and third party payers have no respect for the pharma rep.

Sorry buddy but your knowledge of how it works in the boardrooms you aren’t allowed in is obvious. Big Pharma owns most of our government representatives. Therefore, a lot of the tax codes that are built or designed to make sure that companies like Abbvie are as profitable as possible. There is an entire world of accounting and tax law that is unknown to most people out there and it includes the ability to write off, almost any expense whatsoever that they incur, and that include sales people as well. If you do ever get a chance to speak to someone in one of those high-level positions and they’re willing to tell you the truth, you will uncover a lot of things you don’t know. I didn’t know them either, but fortunately someone at another company was nice enough to explain exactly how this all works.. But I will agree with you most of the people we call on don’t care about us and have no respect for us.

As a CPA accountant there is NO secret writeoffs in pharma! OMG!! Reps are truly clueless on business mechanics. Catering lunches does not SELL drugs!

All correct but the fact remains that most of us drive aimlessly around all day because most docs don't want to see us anymore.
Hospitals and healthcare companies such as United Healthcare own clinics and the first thing to go by the wayside is the drug rep. Ask yourself how many new prescribers you have created last week. I'd say NONE!!!!

While both wrinkles and cataracts are a natural part of aging, getting shit injected into your face is not the appropriate message. Sure, some of the current alcons made botox a "thing," but they are no longer involved. This company should have never bought that garbage. Pushing antidepressants and antipsychotics is not a good look either. Dumb, yes, wrong, no.

Well Mr. CPA, maybe you can educate us on why the tax code is thousands of pages long then. Could it be simple but it isn’t. I wonder why? They aren’t secret it’s just regular people have enough going. on, who has the time to look at everything. Oh and if lunches don’t sell drugs why are we held to call metrics and are constantly being pushed to do more and more. If they are useless and don’t create revenue, why do we need to do them. That is a genuine question I have. Try not to take to much to heart here, but you aren’t in sales and you most likely have no clue what is asked of us on a daily basis. Maybe leave your cubicle and go out on a ride along with a rep.

Companies like Lilly and JNJ have private jets used for maybe .01 percent of the work force, are those written off? Yes they are, just like our cars, which are depreciating assets as well. Maybe we as humans aren’t written off but everything we do has been measured for maximum advantage to the company.

WOW so you are admitting that you’re not very good at your job. If you’ve been arguing to get rid of the salesforce, and you control the financial aspect of a company, why hasnt there been been a massive reduction quite frankly ever.. As another poster said on the site, you need the salesforce to justify the absolutely inflated and bloated middle management group that occurs within Pharma. If you get rid of the middle management, you don’t need the next layer, and then the next layer, especially if you think all those other marketing things work. I think you can run a pharma company with a very small amount of people, but all I see are huge salesforces and countless middle management personnel. I see sky Rizzy commercials all the time and they still have a salesforce. You’re probably a very typical finance guy. And that’s OK. But please don’t talk about things that aren’t going to happen in the hope of finance being patted on the back for getting rid of good paying jobs for Americans who need them.

You basically proved the point we are all making. We are an EXPENSE, which we know are written off. You think Jeff Stewart pays for his own car? Get a grip dude!
