Toby Patterson

The guy is utterly useless. Knows nothing about medical, nothing about R&D, nothing about patients, nothing about managing people. Arrogant and rude.
What a revelation… what do you think you’ll get when hire someone with a drinking problem, don’t do a proper background check on someone who thinks he’s so invincible that he put his children in the car while he drinks and drive. Anyone else that may have been a POC would have charges that wouldn’t allow them to ever get a job at such a high level lucky for him he has a god complex paired with the fact that he is a white male from Australia living in white American - his arrogance has gotten him pretty far so why would he stop now. Life clearly hasn’t humbled him yet.

is this guy for real? Acts like a complete clown. No EQ whatsoever. Really sad to see this level of leadership at Genentech.
Who hired this clown despite all the red flags? No one held accountable? Check out FoxNews report and video of his DUI (with baby in car!) and also GSK colleague stories of his drunken antics. Can't believe this guy is a medic because he is clueless and reckless. So demotivating to see this loser leadership tolerated especially at Genentech.

"Ffthe key ffthing ish tah get access fffer fffthe patients to fffblub matffthela, mate."

The man is unintelligible.
Yep, I thought I had a hearing problem when I first met Toby in campus. I realized that he was just incoherent and playing cool.
What a mess this man caused at GSK and Genentech. I know of good colleagues who left GNE partly because they could not stand his incompetence and favoritism of his mates. Well not a surprise. This is what happens when hiring leaders is based on friendships with the hiring manager rather than on merit (like the GSK clowns). Very good case study on "how NOT to hire".
AM will have to fix the remnants of the team of this ignoramus "leader".

I worked with this clown at GSK. People constantly laughed at him behind his back. He thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room while everyone considers him the opposite. In the end I felt sorry for him. Was only a matter of time before leadership got rid of him.
GSK leadership got rid of him and then another ex GSK (JF) brought him to Genentech. What a circus it has been at USMA. I think it is just a matter of time before Genentech gets fed up of his absenteeism and incompetence and also gets rid of him. Toby Patterson, learn your lessons, you can fool some people sometimes but you can not fool everyone every time.

Totally agree. How this joker was hired to lead US Medical is both surprising and sad. Is he really a medical doctor??? Based on his performance the past year, he is good enough for a project manager role. Nothing more.

You raised an important point. Good luck finding a job for a woman or a POC convicted for dui. White male privilege is real and very much alive today as exemplified by the disastrous hiring of this arrogant useless clown. Bye bye Toby and good riddance. In the meantime, someone has to fix the shit show you created with your (non) leadership
