Field activation specialist position

Interested in learning more about this position, is it an expansion position? Is there a bonus potential based on a sales component?
Also, is there a company car provided or a car allowance?

This is an expansion arm of the Prevention division but will be a higher lever sell because unlike Prep the Mkt Expansion will call on OBGYN & Urologist Specialty. So while Prevention is Primary Care, Expansion will be specialty even though same pay grade. The NSD is probably the best of any EDs in Prevention

Check out the “New to Gilead – Need Feedback” thread.

One of the new PrEP reps mentioned getting $145K & negotiating up to $148K. That’s for a small territory with no overnights.

Just for comparison: the FAS salary range caps at $149K, even though FAS roles come with far more territory, travel, and potential overnight responsibility.

Something to keep in mind before agreeing to 149K.

The FAS team will focussed on business development which is a great skillset to have because it’s difficult. It’s fun because you can get out there and hunt for the business. That said, I 100% agree they should be paid way more for that travel. Also don’t forget… it’s HIV prevention. The FAS team won’t last forever. HIV prevention is a very niched area. If you’re going to work a large territory get a Rare Disease job where you’ll at least get paid.

Another example of how starting salaries here are a disgrace.

That is PS Prep reps which required 5-10yrs of exp.
Field Activation Expansion reps are "entry level" per VP,
And 0-4yrs exp, per postings.
Thus the 120-140k salaries.
And it is just a 3yr gig to get new writers then the Prep team will call on if start writing

Open your eyes, Homer! The pay here is below industry standards.

How is FAS entry level when the job description says:

  • A minimum of 5 years of pharmaceutical, biotech or healthcare industry sales or commercial field experience.

In comparison to the therapeutic Specialist PrEP job on Virgina that says:
  • A minimum of 4 years of pharmaceutical/healthcare sales experience

Or the recently posted HIV Treatment job in LA Central that says:
  • A minimum of 4 years of pharmaceutical/healthcare sales experience

You can’t see beyond the trees in the forest, can you? Does not matter what HR writes in a job description , pal. It’s the below industry pay scale which makes it entry level.

Let’s be real. No PC job require 3–4 hours of driving in a one-way direction, coupled with overnight stays for a $140–$149K base.

There’s strength in numbers. Everyone applying should hold the line at $165K–$170K minimum. And be ready to say no if they won’t budge.

We’ve seen PrEP roles reposted at higher pay after enough people refused low offers. Collective pushback works.

Not for a temp job that's only budgeted for 3yrs otherwise we can just hire a 75k year contract Salesforce.
Once any non writer becomes a big writer then will be given to Prep PS

If your goal is making more money, then stop accepting roles just to say you’re employed. Start positioning yourself with intention. Choose roles that lead to better future opportunities.

HIV is niche & hard to pivot from. Treatment, PrEP, FAS, it doesn’t matter. It’s still HIV & niche.

To elevate your future earning potential, focus on disease states & roles with a proven upward mobility track:
  • Hospital Sales can evolve into Key Account or Strategic Account positions.
  • Neurology (avoid psych-focused roles) can open doors to Rare Disease Neuro Sales.
  • Oncology Lab Sales can be a stepping stone into Oncology Pharma Sales.
Avoid roles that pigeonhole you.

to Use your term, any role at this company beyond 2 years will pigeonhole you. If you’re looking for long term growth and top compensation gotta go rare disease or oncology. So do your time if you must here but move on at 1-2 years Tenure.

You can’t go Rare from any of the HIV.

You can go Rare from Covid/Hospital Sales because Reps have already done it.

You can go Rare from Liver, you can go ultra Rare from Oncology.

You can’t from HIV.
From HIV you’ll still have to go into another specialty first & choose that specialty with intention so your next move could possibly be rare.
