It seems that companies across the board are passing on candidates over 50-55. Everyone I know who is out of work and over 50 is struggling to find work. I have been passed over 3x for jobs where I’m far more experienced than the person they hired.
My 45-minute Teams interview was only 6 minutes, the Amgen interviewer asked me 2 questions and then said thank you. Wow...... Talk about checking a box, I was more than qualified and should have moved forward to a real interview.

This is a reality across the industry. I worked in leadership at a specialty GI company for years. I was working with two contracted recruiters to fill an expansion opening. There were two candidates I was looking for in the pool and never got their resumes. I called my recruiter who I knew very well. She shared that HR directed her not to consider any candidate who graduated college prior to 2008. They only wanted people who were 35 or younger! I was 54 at the time. Gross.
I was referred by multiple Amgen employees, contacted by at least four recruiters about the job, and never even got a call for an interview even though they had multiple openings in my area. They must have a severely broken hiring process.
