The issue is all the fantastic generic medicines and more added each year. It is going to be harder and harder for pharmaceutical research to replace income for medicines that went generic. Companies are going to have to take bigger and bigger risks. Market size will be smaller and companies will have to charge $100,000s per year to replace income stream. For years, PhD researchers have made less money than business leaders in pharma. University pharmaceutical research is way down because of lack of government research grants. Why would anyone get a PhD in pharmacology today?
