1st Interview with Alcon

I have my 1st interview with Alcon, can anyone tell me what to expect? How many interviews are in the interview process? How many candidates does the company normally interview for one position? Etc... Thank you!

I would not recommend this place to work depending on the manager. First of all, turnover here is very high despite what they say. Secondly, if you are female it provides little room for growth. Third, if you have like a bad week, they boot you out...it is not a company to go with if you are thinking about making a career out of this industry, just look elsewhere, mark my words on it!

I sell competitor drugs to Alcon, and Dr's offices tell me all the time they hate their Alcon reps, they are too abrasive/aggressive. Makes me wonder what goes on in training. Sure helps my market share though!

Bull Shit- Alcon is a great company and has the lowest turnover in the industry. They also pay above industry standards. If you are sales oriented Alcon is a place you want to be. They also regulary look toward females for promotions.

your joking right???? How come every one at this last NSM looked like new faces? Every since we IPO'd everything has changed. Perform right away or your out! As for the female thing, yes that is true. JT has a hard on for any hot chick and promotes primarily females.

The lowest turnover? I question that. What about the turnover in GM's district alone? I know a few former Alcon reps who have witnessed turnover. I thinkt he word is "voluntary turnover" . . .open to wide interpretation

This place is a nightmare and I would avoid it all costs. Everyone is right in that they are very quick to fire people and the micromanagement is unlike any I've ever seen. I worked there for less than a year and sometimes I don't know how I survived that long. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone that I know. Turnover in the sales force is VERY high. However, the company as a whole has low turnover (that's the only thing they mention when you interview). Hope you find a job elsewhere.

I was a sales rep in Central Fl. and I hated it. They didn't have to boot me. I bailed on my own because as a female they want you to be eye candy for the customers. I guess I have more dignity and respect for myself than what they expected out of me!

shut up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - and people want to know why women are so stupid

just be prepared to dress up in the field...lets see...i have been a lifeguard, santa claus, a pilgrim, and the most embarassing thing was when my boss had me dress up as cupid for vday...i was never told this when i interviewed...

ha ha ha ha ha.....it's sad but true. I've done the lifeguard thing...it's actually not bad in the middle of july when it's 90 degrees out. i lost some respect from my offices but i got to wear shorts and sandals to work!

The Car is better but thats where it ends. Turnover rate inludes home office where everything is cushy. The sales force has about 30% turn over a year. It is driven by pushy DM's who themselves are on PIP's frequently. Bonus can be good but not better than anywhere else.

Overall payout per rep is higher at other companies. Alcons POA's are the best for fun stuff, but that is to offset the grueling role plays. Alcon could be great with better leadership, but their pushyness puts them in the toilet.

Bingo to the above poster. They talk so much leadership, yeah they really have no idea what leadership is. Slover, McGrew....??? Jones???? leaders?? Slover and McGrew are hard asses that like to tell people what to do not inspire and Jones is the biggest push over. Easily influenced by his peers. Come to think of it JT is the a hard ass if your not one of his "favorites".

clearly ypu are hearing mixed messages i have been with Alcon for 7 years, yes they demand work ethic and performance but anyone in the industry will tell you the same it dosen't matter what company. It is how it is in the pharma industry, so if you don't want to give 100 % and just be under the rador go with a bigger company I guess, that dosen't care about performance. Good Luck!

hello - welcome to sales!!!! - what do all you assholes want. a frickin cake walk. we have excellent products with a wall street attitude. If this company had more hard core sales people that know what tough sales is all about we would be doing better. We have so many pussy sales reps that complain all the time "are quotas are too high" "my dm is so hard on me". Go sell copiers, yellow pages, cleaning materials, advertising with no expense accounts or company car with a cold call list of 25-30 per day and you will begin to appreciate this business

let me tell you something - listen very closely. I do very well with Alcon and I'm not a company kiss ass, I have my issues with things but what job is perfect. The key to having job satisfaction with Alcon is the DM. If you have a jerk who watches over you and wants you to follow all the alcon crap, you will hate this job. They will make your life misreable. I hear shit from reps that their DMs make them do and I just lose my mind. I'm very lucky to have the best DM in the company who lets me sell and the biggest key of all is that he doesn't want to be the next Mr. Alcon.
