I'm on the human side (pharmaceutical sales) and I was contacted by a recruiter for an opening on the veterinary side (distributor sales). The company is Henry Schein...anyone with any opinion or insight on this company?

Human pharma to animal health distributor sales? No offense because I don't know you, but; compared to the stereotypical human rep you'll be working about 10X as hard. Great pay if you're willing to put in the effort. Distributor jobs are truly ALL about relationships and customer service. Very very competitive.

My advice to you is to go talk to several (5 or 6) veterinary clinics in your area. Find out what their opinion of HS is. Also ask about your would be competitors. How long have the reps been in the area? Do the vets rave about how much they love them etc... You'll be selling the same product lines as many of your competitors so it all comes down to YOU.

HS is well thought of in some areas. Not so much in others.

I'd recommend finding a position with a mfg first. I'm a mfg rep and in no way want a distributor job. I'm not that likable, and not that eager.

It will probably be a constant uphill battle. The market is so diluted with veterinary distributors that unless you are a very established rep in your area, you will only get a SMALL piece of the pie. HS seems like an ok company, but be careful as they use to use a killer non-compete. I would recommend a manufacturer as well, unless you are going to a large company with an established territory ($1million or more). In the West region, MWI, Victor, Butler... Not sure about the companies in the east, I think that Webster is pretty big there.

I recently met your Columbus, OH rep at a meeting. She is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen!
