ASR Experiences

Has Gyrus been hiring a lot of ASRs recently? Do they do this in phases? I almost landed a position and then it was put off for a few months. I'm hoping that they end up hiring sooner than they told me. What are the chances?

I know a couple reps in the NE who came from pharma. They just hired another pharma rep. Apparently they have a lock on the industry and own the biz. You can make serious cake here, like 400k. ASR is 50k plus a 25k bonus but well see what happens when Olympus decides to become more integrated with Gyrus, until then this is the tops.

As it relates to the surgical energy division: What are the major products sold and how does the overall energy product / division rank in the industry? What type of $$ and lifestyle can you look forward to as both a rep and ASR?

Two weeks back east, then a week with a trainer in your area. But I think it depends on the division, you mentioned gyn/surgery. Is this for the HI ASR position? Just curious because I thought they put off hiring for a while.

thanks for the insight. yes the position is for a gyn/surgery position in the midwest. any reason why the company is holding off hiring at this time and when do they expect to resume the process.

They're waiting for the beginning of the fiscal year which is April. I'm waiting as well but Gyrus is an awesome company with huge market share in most territories so it's worth the wait. Good luck.

have you had any phone screen/ interview yet and what part of the country are you in?
As for the time table to hire, how sure are you that they will be in fact filling the posted positions? I to believe this oppty is great!
Thanks for your follow up

I am an ASR with Oympus Surgical. Great gig. Excellent products, great reputation, but very very tough competiton. Olympus and Storz dominate the surgical/video market. I've made some headway into accounts with my surgical bag but have also found success selling some of the disposables that came over from Gyrus.

The MAJOR obstacle for Olympus is the fact that they cannot offer a 'standardized solution' a tower that can be used across specialties espeically for ortho. Standardized is the new buzz word that everyone is using. If ortho wants a tower then stryker wins every time. Stryker also does a good job on bundling their products: Beds, insufflators, tubing, scopes, etc. If you take away from one area (surgical) they punish you in others. Thats tough to compete against. Great job though. Olympus is truly an innovator with great products. Love it and am working hard towards a promotion to full-line gig.

To the last poster, thanks for the comments. It sounds like there are a few of us on the forum that are really looking forward to interviewing with Gyrus for an ASR position. They have several posted on the site but don't seem to be interviewing or hiring yet. Another poster mentioned that it wouldn't be until April. I know that you're at Olympus not Gyrus but do you know if corporate hires at certain times of year or what they are waiting for? I want this job and I'm getting antzy. Also, can you tell us a little about how you got the gig, the interview process, your background and such? Thanks for your help.

Gyrus does not hire associate reps. Only Olympus does within their surgical division. If you don't have a medical background you must network your way in. ASR's don't make much. You've got to earn your stripes.

Gyrus Urology/Gynecology does hire ASR's, I was interviewing about 6-7 months back. Pay was 75k at plan with 50k base and 25k bonus. All expenses and benefits covered, great gig to start at. I decided to stay in Ortho and work my relationships. Good luck to all you guys.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Olympus is the only company that has a standardized solution (general, GI, Ortho, Etc). I don't know how long you have been with the company but if you do not know that you should not have a job. If you were my ASR I would slap your dumb ass if the face. I hope I dont see you in PA because I will tell you whats up. Good luck with the disposables, they gave us them for a reason they suck. How have your sells been going with them. Time for you to get a new job.
