AVP and RM Comp

Have you seen sales?!?!? It couldn't get too much worse. What has KC done that's been of any value at all? Under his watch, we've gone from a pin drop hole in the boat to an iceberg sized crater hole. The titanic is going down. And it's happened on his watch.

WTF is a "pin drop hole"? Or a "crater hole" for that matter? What's scary is that trauma's round peg is trying to be run like recon, or at least trying to be jammed into the square hole.....(Hole trifecta complete!)

The story on KC is old but well understood. Got promoted beyond his competency by fooling Orsinger into believing he was the hardest working man in the company. Gennett went along because he felt no threat from KC and knew he could control him. Why JNJ keeps him around is unclear but maybe they bought into the same line. The bottom line is he plays up really well and rules by paranoia and running people down so no one gets passes him in the promotional process. He does his best impersonation of Gennett trying to make the sales team believe he cares about them. He's a cheap copy of an original phoney.

The repercussions of J&J colossally overpaying for Synthes will continue to be felt for years to come. The Synthes business model was unsustainable and J&J analysts failed to see it before stroking a big check. They have all but given up on growth and now focus on protecting margins while pricing free falls. They cut costs by dumping high income earners and restructuring comp plans of RMs and RVPs. Rep comp is gradually being reduced as low cost Quintiles rent-a-reps are being substituted for traditional SCs. Meanwhile, Carpenter plays a key role as the shepherd keeping his flock calm as he leads them to slaughter while telling them "I got your back."

as a legacy synthes rep, the company has changed 180 degrees. the ship is sinking, limited investments, no more ground breaking products, quintiles guys taking massive territories(and making $80k/year), mitek AVPs that dont know the business losing revenue and reps (hello houston), high profile reps leaving for other vendors, no plan at all. its sad because synthes was the gold standard. id be surprised if they are ranked 2 or 3 in the next few years.

Synthes exists anymore in name only. The playbook and the people guiding it haven't a clue what it takes to be successful. J&J played into the hands of our competitors who contend trauma to a commodity with the greatest differentiator being price. Now we are fighting for our lives in a price war we can't win. I.m afraid the writing's on the wall folks.

Whoever left; either forced out or on their own are the true winners here. They have a head start on their next chapter and don't have to deal with the frustration at JJ.

It really is a shame what's happened. It's just a bottom line business now. Slash costs, slash costs, slash costs. You (yes YOU) are not a person to JnJ. You are just a number: you are WWID 827465 with an overhead of 11%, plain and simple. There is no humanity to this JnJ machine. They are a ruthless, de-personalized war machine. Their goal: make WWID's go away and be replaced by 3rd party contract farmhands. No medical, no 401k, no commission, no overhead. Just a nobody who they can overwork, underpay, and fire on a dime.

This company is the epitome of evil.

I shouldn't have read this so early on a Monday morning. Excuse me while I secure this plastic bag around my head....

Wyss got the last laugh because they will never recoup what they spent to buy Synthes. It won't tank the company but it will taint the bottom line for a couple of decades. At least it wasn't leveraged like Boston Scientific take out of Guidant years ago - they never recovered.

Hey....thats my WWID...good thing I jumped 3 years ago. Landed in a good place. I feel bad for my former colleagues when I see them, situation seems worse every time. Hey, Globus is launching a trauma line.

"A cheap copy of an original phoney." What a great line that sums up one man's career work to the "t". I can't think of a better way to say it.

I was a Synthes SC for many years. Stryker offered me a deal I couldn't refuse. For many of you high-performing tenured SC's, I would highly recommend you reach out to Stryker. Management is actively recruiting high performing Synthes guys who are being affected by their new comp plan. You don't have to jump if you don't want to, but you will be surprised at some of the deals you'll be offered to come over. Just my two cents.

its interesting to watch a bunch of customer service people bitch. Most of you can’t lead manage or sell. You serve. That’s why double digit growth no longer exists. You can’t sell anything because you are afraid to sell. Coffee is for closers. Coffee is for people who execute. Coffee is not for customer service people.
