Background check

How many years back does this company look for the background check?

HR Monitor:
-They check all the way back to your high school transcript and usually call 2-3 teachers to see if they would provide the candidate a reference. The principal of your middle and high school will be called for reference at the very minimum. If you pass this part, they move on to your college experience and will call the dean of your major for reference. Hope this helps.

HR Monitor:: Above posts are partly correct. But first check is the national FBI, IRS, FICO, CDC and finally Interpol databases. If said applicant has any 'history' with these agencies its a non-starter as far as any employment.

Once you pass these wickets you are subject to an educational and character background check with educational institutions. This step is not mandatory, however.

The background check goes back 5 year. I am a recent hire. There will be criminal check, driving record check, drug test, degree verification (not GPA just that a degree was obtained). Is there something particular you are concerned about them seeing? Depending what it is I would be up front with them.

I was rejected because I failed the drug test, they took blood, pee, and earwax. don't understand why I failed as I don't do weed. Now work weekends as a bouncer in nite club .

That's too bad. Considering that Actavis doesn't take blood or ear wax for the drug test something must have really went wrong.

HR Monitor:: If you failed a drug test, you can request a re-check and this has to be accommodated by the company. However the re-check requires urine sample and anal gland fluid extraction. Which is a process that requires you to take a laxative the night before getting the drug test completed.

They call this the rectal extraction test. To be a successful manager one must be very proficient at this.

Laxative? Then what the heck were they doing putting their lips on my brown eye and sucking?

This is the dumbest company I've ever worked for. They love the indoctrinated and can't understand people who have ideas and know how to play we'll within the rules.

I was recently offered a position with Allergan. I failed background check due to a DUI. The HR rep called me and stated that they would be sending me an "adverse action" paperwork packet that will allow me to appeal their decision. I spoke with the manager that hired me and informed him of the situation. I explained that the DUI was 5 years ago and I haven't had any type of charge since. Does an appeal usually work out in the potential employee's favor? Who's decision is the final hire? I was told by the manager who offered me the position that I should do whatever I can to appeal because he doesn't want to hire another candidate for the role.
Please help! Any advice is greatly appreciated as I'm extremely eager to work for this company.

Count your lucky stars that you are not going to work for this company - very toxic environment. This company will make your life a living hell.

As far as advice, be honest and proactive in future interviews. The DUI is bound to come up again. Tell them the steps you have taken to assure something like that will never happen again. Focus on your achievements and how you will bring value to a really good company.

You sound like an honest and thoughtful person - that being true, you are probably not good fit with these snakes. Don't sell your soul.

Yes, my concern is that I was arrested for indecent exposure...masturbating in a crowded movie theater. If I didn't nut all over the blonde in front of me I would never have gotten caught.

HR Monitor:: This issue was 'put to bed' last year. To reiterate: background checks are part of the hiring vetting process. The checks include, but are not limited to: college attendance, GPA, degrees; personal references (up to 3); previous employer (if any); credit check; FBI rap sheet (felony / sex offender / OUI etc) via national database; substance abuse (via blood / urine / earwax / saliva screens as required); in-house physical including BMI (weight and height min requirements).
