Difficult Situation: Not the right fit

I’ve been in the pharma business as a rep for over 25 years, was displaced last year, and started a new job in a global pharma company for a division that is outside my experience. I thought I might try something different, but after 4 months I realize that it isn’t the right fit for me and I am miserable. I’m currently looking to get back into a company and a therapeutic division that I am used to, am comfortable with, and have a connection to in terms of interest. Yes, the money right now is currently good, but I have zero connection to what I am now promoting. My manager and team have been great and super supportive, but this isn’t for me. Has anyone else ever experienced this in their career? It’s very uncomfortable and I dread going to work every day.

It happens all the time.

I am sure you have assets from your 25 years of work, so I don't know why you even care.

What you need to do is this:

1. Look for another job.

2. Don't give shit about your current job because you know you are not staying.

You will be fine.

If the stress gets really bad and you get irregular heartbeats or start kicking the dog, then just quit.

Keep us posted and do your best to "play the game" and "relax" at the same time.

That’s basically the plan. It’s just messed up as I’ve never been in a position like this before. It’s like a cult over here. They all are so into this and say the same things. Scary this continues to go on in pharma. Life isn’t about work. Thanks for your kind response.

Yes, no problem.

You will be fine. Sounds like you are with a bunch of strange people there.

Also, when you leave, just say it is for personal reasons. Don't give them any information on the reason. Keep us posted. The economy will get better after the election. Companies are waiting to see what happens in November before them make moves.
