Failure of the Ecosystem model

I’ve only been here for 6 months and can’t believe the incompetence in leadership. HD’s don’t understand the model and are back to their old habits of micromanaging. I feel like a big pharma rep here, which is no different than what I left. I think it is time for all HD’s to go through “Ecosystem Model” training as well as what a “Therapeutic Area MANAGER” is.

Well, lawtee frickin da. We all knew the ecosystems were going to be a joke. But upper management has to get paid to do something. As Bud Foxx once said, Genentech is a dog with fleas.

The ecosystem model was so far from customer focus. No one has any expertise. People leading that don’t even know what their reports do. Everyone on a continual internal focused interview. No system expertise, no therapeutic area expertise, no reimbursement expertise, no leaders. Drowning.

Agreed. Customers prefer a single point of contact. The ecosystem model has about 6 people contacting offices, in addition to the telephone marketers and surveyors. It’s an absolute joke.

In addition you have all these useless positions attempting to take credit for work they have nothing to do with. I have an FRM that believes she is the reason our franchise is doing so well. She calls the offices to get info, and then sends out ecosystem wide emails about useless information implying she has great relationships. Problem is the offices have no clue who she is. Total drama queen.

Spot on.

Expertise abandoned in favor of gobbledygook.

We knew it back then and it’s now worse than ever. It HASN’T changed. WHO would have thought Ophtha which was never actually put in the ridiculous ecosystem model would be practically holding Genentech up. Sure, let’s try a model that no other company succeeded in.

Exactly, McKinsey and ZS have been pimping this BS to big pharma since 2008. Were weren’t the first and most companies peeled this model back due to the ineffectiveness of the model and poor leadership development!

Well said. Do you think Roche/Genentech can admit this was a complete and total failure of a model? Stock price is lowest I have ever seen it. Morale is the lowest I have ever seen it. HD’s and some TA’s have never been this bored, they are literally playing “name that toon” on bi-weekly calls ecosystem calls. The model was used to get rid of people and downsize. Could we finally bring some common sense back and ditch this model? It sucks to watch other companies steal our business. Pay the TAMs on sales and watch the magic happen.
