field sales interview

I will be interviewing for a field sales position for MedImmune and wanted to get some feedback on total compensation, goal attainment and culture....anyone want to share

Good luck. I am going to try to answer you honestly and without any snark. i've been around for a while and please keep in mind, this is simply one opinion, my opinion.

Your base salary will be decent if compared to a regular drug job like a Merck or Lilly. it will not match other biotech and will likely be less. car is basic, base model NissAn Rogue, Altima, Subaru Outback, Ford Fusion, etc. At least it's free. benefits are decent and competitive. Bonus?? Ouch. Our bonuses have gotten less and less and they are harder to get. A decent percentage is up to your manager to either say yeah or nay and I think that will turn into a popularity contest. My bonus and that of my colleagues was pretty pathetic this year and I think it will be less than 18k total!!!!! My year wasn't bad in terms of performance, I was middle of the pack.

medImmune is really into micromanaging, filling up your IPAD on a a daily basis, tracking ALL calls, transmitting daily - all the stuff that does not grow your sales but just annoys you. It's a good old boy company so if you're a good old boy, political right winger, then this is your company. They like to hire tea partiers and the managers have no qualms about being outspoken with their political views and they scare the sales reps into keeping quiet. People with other political views are scared to speak up. If you are a Fox News watcher, please fill out an application.

However, it's a decent job and there are worse places to end up.

thanks for your honest feedback - its appreciated. they said salary is mid 70's to 80 and bonus 38K at plan. regarding micromanaging, I think that is everywhere unless you end up with a startup and then they get bought out and your back to a micro company. I feel if you are on the up and up in the field and do what you are suppose to do, then you are fine... I am not into BS or the political games of companies - but again, I appreciate your comments and guess we will see what happens. I am still waiting to see if I make it to the 2nd round - haven't heard anything in about a week and it's looking a little dim....but have others I'm interviewing with as well. thanks all.

Hmmm, getting to $38K is going to be highly unlikely. A few will get there but most won't get close. otherwise, it's probably more of the same that you would get anywhere. No huge surprises.

I was told in my interview $38k bonus was very attainable and that if you were not hitting goals, you would probably be let go.

no hiring manager is ever going to say goals are unatainable. ask to see a simple stack ranking. how many hit 100pct on either product. go ahead. try that one.

well, that is an "interview lie". In the Western Region, for example, ONE REP made the quota for both products and hence, got to the $38K amount. It's a huge region with many, many states and somethink like 65 reps. I really doubt they are going to FIRE everyone in the region! I know reps that haven't made their goals in years and they tend to get promoted!

I would love to know who you are interviewing with, initials?????

I have been here for a long time and we have only launched FLUMIST and it's a DOG!

um. nope. that Mgr was misrepresenting. previous poster said it best: they usually want to see YOUR rankings, ask to see stack rankings to see how many hit goal and not. but yes your interview travel expenses will be covered.

Every year people have to repay bonus money. I am not sure how many have to repay this year but they take it out of your checks!!! Ask a hiring manager about that and your answer will be.....crickets.....stares......dry mouth......and NO answer 'cuz the truth hurts! I am serious!!!!!
