Future of Distributors??

I've asked around a bit, speaking with DePuy Spine and Synthes reps, as well as some other DePuy Ortho guys. So far, nothing is certain. Rumor has it that the direct model of Synthes will remain intact. So if you are a DePuy trauma rep, you will probably be hired on as a direct rep.

Obviously, either way there will be a bit of fallout with layoffs due to too many sales reps trying to sell trauma and spine; it will be interesting to see how that goes...

Insert foot in mouth. You were wrong about that statement.
NC, SC, Ga, Tn - all just had the DePuy Spine distributors receive termination letters and the reps received packages taking them direct.

What is going on in the South with Depuy Spine? Distributors kicked to the curb, new AVP with no spine experience and W2 people now. It is really too bad. Depuy Spine has a good line but not very strong reps in the field. They have not been a power since 2005 in Georgia. They seem to be headed in the opposite direction. Other reps dont want to jump to them because of leadership issues in the field. Maybe the synthes things will be a good thing for the company. Across the board the synthes guys just work hard for that 12% and dont make much noise.

Some spine distributors are hiring in anticipation of aquiring the Synthse line. Why would they hire if they thought that their distributorship would lose the Depuy contract? Spine is such a competetive market that breaking up some distributors could mean a drastic loss of buisness.

If a distributor was to break up not all reps may be willing to go direct. Competeing distributors may offer better packages to successful reps. Any non-compete would go out the window in this situation.

How does the Depuy Distributor in Hawaii get to sell Depuy Joints, Depuy Trauma, Depuy Mitek, Arthrex, Storz, Biomet, and Small Bone Innovation? I also heard that they covered Nuvasive until they got caught padding invoices.

There is something Fundamentally wrong with this.

Just wondering

Is it true the Depuy spine distributor in Boston/New England area is losing the line and Depuy is going direct model? If they go then that means my region is likely to follow suit.

Very interesting to see these distributors losing the Depuy line. I wonder how the reps feel going from 1099 to W2? I would think it would better for them? Am I wrong in my assumption?

For many of us the move back to W2 is like going back to big brother and being micromanaged like a pharma rep. I work hard for the potential to make $$ and when all that is taken away it is time to move on. Good luck everyone!!
