Genentech Layoffs & Severance

I am affected by the Genentech layoffs. If the plant is acquired and I am offered a position, and either accept or reject the offer, I am not eligible for the Genentech severance. My goal is to get the severance and leave. Does anyone know how acquisitions like this work. Can they make me an offer if I make it clear to them I do not want to work there?

No by Federal LAW, they are not allowed to make you an offer once you tell them you don't want to work for them any longer. My advice to you is to compose a written letter telling your company that you wish to take the severance because you no longer want to work for them. Present a signed copy of the letter to your manager and be sure to CC everyone you can think of. They will take care of you.

Before you write any letters, you may want to speak to a lawyer for a few minutes. While the poster that advised you to write the letter may know exactly what he is talking about, a lot of people on this board don't know what they are talking about but pretend they do. Laws also vary from state to state.

I don't know that this is the best place for you to be getting legal advice.

OK. Write a letter saying I do not want to work for the acquiring company, and I do not want to work for Genentech (by transferring to another location). Right?

I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were really this stupid. Must be terrible being bought by Roche, they will not protect people like you any longer.

Obvious from your tone and response you are a bitter troll. No wonder your wife and kids think you're a failure. And if you don't have a family....this explains why. Either way...same end.
