GSK position

I am concidering applying for a position with GSK in respiratory. I have heard pros and cons about your new sales model but of all of the companies out there right now GSK seems to have the most in the pipeline. Are really all sales incentives gone though? I would like to be with a company that is launching some new products..... But is there actually incentive to put in the work to launch a new product? Any feedback would be helpful.

I REALLY hope you're kidding. I suggest you run for the hills, far away from this disgusting company. Don't even consider coming here. Ask ANY GSK rep and you'll get an earful about the imbeciles who run this company. Good luck!

Don't expect any kind of realistic response on this board. Most posts are from a couple trolls that complain about everything.

The job is really not that hard and you get paid well for doing it.

As to incentive, I laugh every time I read that. Like any other job, you never know what you will make on incentive. Focus on the base salary.

Agree. Make sure you like taking exams regularly. Make sure live simulations is something you are comfortable with. They are how you will be paid. The tests are made to be difficult. No real official study material with practice questions. You cannot really prepare for simulations. I'm not whining or complaining, just telling you how it is. This system is a part of our CIA agreement with the government. You can research that on line. Paying for the sins of executives. You know the old saying, $hit rolls down hill. Well, its a steep hill with a lot of crap!

If you are already in pharma, you will find the new model absolutely ridiculous and it is. It is possibly the worst company there is if you are a sales person. The bottom line however is that pharma is the about the best gig in sales. High salary, short hours and great benefits. Your long term prospects are governed by a companies pipeline, but be aware that every company brags about their pipeline and most drugs in the pipeline don't make it and those that do are faced with either earlier or soon after entries, few drugs enjoy actual uniqueness for long. If you are looking to just get in to pharma and aren't bothered by the stupidity of management on a daily basis, go for it. If you are already in pharma GSK will probably frustrate the shit out of you. If you do take a position, keep this post and refer to it when you start to get frustrated. Too many in this industry are forget how easy it is and instead choose to focus on how it used to be better.

Listen to the advice given to you. Not just Pharma, but the entire company, consumer healthcare included is run by a bunch of brainless, egotistical dictators. Granted there is no perfect company, but this one is BAD....REAL BAD.

The job is a total useless waist of your time. You will spend endless hours learning what to say and how to say it to your list of customers. Most of your customers will not talk to you yet you will report calls(to meet reach and frequency numbers) on them every week or every other week if another GSK rep works your territory also. If your customer says you can only see them with new information that means once a year or 2.

If you are the type of person who does not like to accomplish much, not into selling but love administrative work, reporting calls that don't happen and find delivering samples(like a UPS guy) fascinating this job might be right for you.

The pay is good but the future is bleak. The wonderful promise a great pipeline of drugs has been a bust as generics eat away at our brands.

If you take the job beware as a layoff is always on the horizon.

Remember to tell them on the interview that you will always put the patient first!

short days you are delusional you have an iPad and most likely are gps tracked! Your job sucks!

The 87% "employees would NOT recommend working at GSK" is all need to know. That number game out on or about 2nd quarter of 2013 (June'ish). nothing funny or degrading to say here. That's it. Don't do it. There are other companies that offer good pay, nice benefits where you enjoy your job. GSK isn't that company. Good luck!

OP here.

Thank you very much for your responses. The company doesn't sound like a great place to be but the people seem very upfront! I am in pharma and would have not received such informative feedback on my company's board. So at least it seems there's cool people within your company, or at least on your CP board. :) Thank you.

Hmmmmm......interesting that there are two posts within minutes of each other. One from a so called job seeker and one from a so called employee.......and posted in very late hours/early morning hours where most people are not on the board.....and we are to believe these are different people.

Sounds like an invented thread when you read through it all. A set up question and then the same responses we have seen over and over again. Same words/phrases. Doesn't take much to draw a conclusion with this one.

Get a life, moron.

15yrs+ Former GSK Respiratory Rep here, there is an opening in my former territory.

My former colleagues have told me what the current environment is like at GSK.

I like my current job but it will likely end before Summer.

The industry is not what it used to be but these are still very good jobs in a tough economy.

Question? the job description says they want 4 years or fewer Pharma experience, is that requirement set in stone? or would they make the logical decision and take advantage of the access to their key customers and record of success selling GSK respiratory products I have?

It's funny you mention the 4 years or fewer of Pharma experience. I recently applied for a position and I have 8 years experience with 2 president clubs and numerous sales awards on my resume. I received an email yesterday that said " my qualifications don't match what they are looking for". I was shocked to see this so I went back and looked at the job requirements and it did state they wanted someone with less than 4 years Pharma experience which I found odd

I am also a veteran Pharma Sales Rep with 10+ yrs experience....I noticed an ad for GSK Resp rep that mentioned 4 years or less preferred? WTF? What is the rationale for that? Also requested military experience???? I know several GSK reps in my area and to the best of my knowledge, none ever served in the military!! I have all the respect in the world for veterans/currr military, but what has the got to do with Pharma sales?
