How are ecosystems working out? Recommended?

Hey folks, some ‘leader’ from there has suggested to my company that we should move to a similar model. She claimed that gene was the first to do it and it’s worked well. That’s not what I’ve heard from others. Some folks I work with left there during the changes and they are great.

Thoughts?

We are absolutely crushing it with our negative sales growth.

Oh H no! It’s a total s-show.

Ecosystems are about 75% dysfunctional.

Reason 1-MEDs most are useless, shouldn’t be in front of customers and should not be classified as Medical (sales lite with a PharmD) they don’t play nice with others and have little to no industry experience cause they were our customers

Reason 2-sales people need to sell and be bonused accordingly. MBOs, individual measures they don’t work. ZS quit trying to sell that up the chain plz!

Reason 3-HDs were hired to do 2 jobs at once and don’t really care to manage people but wanted the title and having multiple HDs (oh they are like a DM)
having a SPOC n another HD for a System is crazy model

Reason 4-the morale in the Ecosystems may be some of the worst attitudes I have ever worked with in my 15 years in Pharma. But you can’t blame them…the last 18 mo we have been on a NASCAR track, but we change cars every other month

Reason 5-cross portfolio essentially means you can hide behind a brand or two…..do nothing with the other brands and meanwhile we are bleeding business all around us but it’s okay because we should all get bonused anyways

Reason 6-Leadership can sit in their office and hold virtual Ecosystem team meetings and never get out to meet the customers because we are busy working on account planning, voice of the customer or Diversity training

Am I right?

OMG. So right. MEDS are ‘new’ and should never have happened. They are a terrible leader who thinks nothing can happen without her. She was part of the customer engagement of the future from the beginning and the whole morph to ecosystems. Even more, she caused a lot of talented medical folks to leave the company. Sad.

You are mostly right with one caveat…

Customers DO NOT want to meet with leadership or HD’s. There are a select few egomaniacs that are on speaker bureau, that like to be stroked by leadership. 95% of our customers see these visits and tag teaming as obnoxious. They don’t want to meet you. They ate perfectly happy with one point of contact being the TAM that have the relationships. Not sure why we are trying to inundate offices with excess job justifying employees.

If you'd like to spend $100M to make changes that customers aren't asking for, then yes, by all means, adopt Genentech's field model.

Revenue is down 6% from last year. We are changing the world.

Time will tell.. Covid and Biden can’t make anything look get great, even with rose color glasses..
This is a jo byden kind of company. Clueless, lost and in cognitive decline surrounded by useful idiots. Good work. Time for a meeting to discuss the next meeting. Someone call an outside consultant.

Listen- the ecosystem model was abandoned by Roche 2 years ago (except they didn’t call it an Ecosystem) Genentech’s ecosystem model was to get rid of 50+ of the field and availed getting sued. Changed the titles, changed the job descriptions. Reapply for your job. This was the intent! Get rid of bodies! We need to go back to the old model where sales people were compensated to SELL! What the ecosystems are causing is burnout. Everyone is buttering up to HD’s and HED’s with their “happy birthday” messages by replying all….it’s freaking ridiculous. Our sales are in the toilet! We need to go back… this is not working and Nancy knows it!!!! It’s a matter of time!
