How deep and wide will the cuts be?

I am NQ and my opinions is all NQ will be done with perhaps a rare exception where geography has a surplus of NQ and no Abbott. I live in a high oppurunity area and my geography could be twice the size and we still would only need 4 of the 6 reps we have now. We bump into eachother all day.

all NQ gone

all Solvay gone (phew)

all teams down to two (or fewer) reps with rural geographies gutted entirely (phew)

this is the end

I call BS on this and I'm ABT--not Solvay. I DO think all NQ who did not get rolled over are gone, but there is NO reason to get rid of all Solvay. I do think Solvay will be hit as well as ABT, but I don't think all Solvay are gone. What is your source of info on this?????? I doubt you have any.

NQ 90% or higher, why? this contract is 3 years old, was used to launch drugs, nothing launching. Certriad death final nail. 10% will remain because there are some territories with only one abbott or no abbott reps.

Solvay 80%. Abbott bought for Androgel and any other products that it can produce, they didnt buy the reps.

Abbott 20% territories with 3-4 abbott reps will be reduced to 2-3 abbott managers go from having 8-10 reps to 12-14. Abbott has tried over and over to find more for managers to do, ie: dinner with doctors, abbott point person, etc without any serious implementation or successes.

That is my thoughts, I dont know but have been through 5 of these things and this is how it usually falls, with exception of contract that is a new mix into the equation.

you are correct

So do DMs get the boot, become account managers or demoted to rep? Would this be on an as-needed basis by territory/geography? WE HAVE WAY TOO MANY, DOING NADA! I hope mine gets the Big "B"! Good for nothing other than collecting a paycheck.

I heard the DMs without jobs will be given jobs in other areas

Mine has been getting jobs regularly from reps in bad pant suits throughout the region

AGREE! However, All Stars and Rising Stars will be protected. It makes no sense to let go your BEST sales reps. Fortunately, I am a multiple All Star winner.

Ummm...no offense, but does "All Star" or "Rising Star" mean you're one of the best, or one of the luckiest?? You might be good, or lucky, or both! Gimme a break!!

P.S. Speaking as a former all-star.

Last year during one of the realignments, Abbott let a 2009 National Captain go because she went from the top to the bottom of rankings. Now let me ask you this: so from Dec 2009 to Jan 2010 did this reps. do anything differently? Nope! She was an excellent rep. and is now with AZ. Their gain; Abbott's loss.

I too am a Platinum All Star and I don't count myself safe for a single second. Just as with All Star, who stays and who goes during this next wave of layoffs involves a little luck, some skill and simply being in the right place at the right time (oh and maybe throw in a little politics for those who are favored vs not). Nothing more/nothing less. And this wisdom comes from 20 years in this stinking industry. Trust me, I've seen and heard it ALL! May you end up on the side of the chopping block that you wish for. I know I just want OUT!

Agreed. Buzzword in pharma today is profitability. I don't begrudge anyone their All Star achievements, but as a former winner of top honors with another company, I've known a lot of great reps who were stuck in lousy territories, were hamstrung by manged care, or whose territory was "high potential" (with corresponding ultra-high sales quotas), but little to no access. Sometimes you have a customer or 2 who really blow out your numbers for you, then retire or move out of state.

Companies know all this. That's why Abbott is moving to a volume-based goal. They know a small-volume territory can post great numbers, but not make much in the way of profit, while a zip code with several large medical centers and large number of RX'rs can look bad numbers-wise but provide a lot more revenue to the Company.

During the cutbacks last year, I was shocked to see a former multiple-All Star-winner get the boot, along with a great DM who was successful and by-the-book true-blue Abbott. If your territory has too many bodies and not enough profit potential, the third-party vendor Abbott hired to do the dirty work and avoid the appearance of bias/favoritism will sever you regardless of past performance. Don't take it personally 'cause it's just a numbers game.

Best to all. Remember, there are more important things in life than this job. We will all make it through this trial, and be stronger for it. Kiss your spouse/loved one, hug your kids/pets, and be thankful for each and every day. And if we all get to Las Vegas before the axe falls, let's go out with ONE HELL OF A PARTY!!!!

What is in that pipe you been smokin'? That makes absolutely NO difference. Anybody that has been around the block a time or two knows that there is a lot of luck in being All Star. I am a multiple All Star winner and a National Captain and have seen several folks with multiple All Star winners get cut. I make be next....and I am betting you could be on the chopping block too. If you aren't, you should be simply based on the fact you have an overblown opinion of your worth! Get over yourself already.

My All Star awards are legit - - - I take pride in going out everyday to SELL!!! If we all make a 110% effort in doing our SALES job, layoffs would not be in our vocabulary. PERFORMANCE is rewarded! It is simple - make your numbers and you will have a great job.

Ok. I have been with Abbott for many years. I have seen reps work 2 days per week and make all star and other very talented reps work hard and fall to the bottom of all star rank. It is the worst tool to measure a representative's performance, abilities and work ethic. For those all star reps, many of you simply got lucky. Yes, many factors go into territory performance. Managed Care, access, patient demographics, and at times, the unrealistic quotas or in your favor, very light quotas. The whole sales model is faulty, but upper management knows that and just feels that's the nature of the beast. Accept it or leave.

Abbott does have a clue about rewarding employees. Kos did.

What complete and total arrogance! Let me guess, you work in an area with full access, have excellent managed care and lastly sell. Considering the nation is at 95% for Oct, I am guessing you aren't blowing it out either.
