So I’m writing on behalf of my husband. We are located in central Va. He started with Zimmer/Biomet in 2011 as a total joint associate. He then got a job in Va Beach with Mako Robotics which was bought out by Stryker. He was with them for 5 years and was very successful bringing in new business, hitting quota several years in a row, his Drs and staff loved him.
A personal family tragedy on my side happened in 2018 and I simply did not want to be at the beach anymore, I wanted to come home and be close to the family I had back in central va. My husband took a job with Integra as a foot and ankle rep. He absolutely hated it. After 2 years he took a job back in hips and knees with Smith and Nephew and was successful there as well. This was a 1099 position which none of us liked. No benefits and paying for all gas and the driving was substantial but he was back in hips and knees.
He was approached by IQVIA and took a W2 position with them after they sold him on this job is a great “work/life balance” with the territory being central Va and Winchester. No long evenings, no weekends and full benefits. Once he took the job, the manager that hired him left and the interim manager basically told him his job was to go to Morgantown,WV 2 weeks out of the month, 6 hours away and stay in a hotel, which he simply could not do. That’s certainly not the work/life balance he was sold on and not to mention, it’s definitely not the job that he took. So they had to mutually part ways. And of course, his position at S&N had been filled. So he currently has no job.
He has applied for everything he sees, here and back in Va Beach and hasn’t gotten hardly an email. He’s even applied for associate positions and gotten nothing. The guilt I feel for making him leave Stryker is killing me and we’re scared. He doesn’t know what else to do but our savings is slowly being depleted.
My husband is an amazing man, he’s smart, a natural easygoing salesman, great with people, he was a college athlete, good looking, all the qualities companies look for in candidates. He knows it looks like he job hops but with the situations that have happened, this is where we are. You always think the grass is greener, but it’s not.
Can anyone out there give me ANY advice or does anyone know management or reps in the Va Beach area they could reach out to? He’s on Medreps, LinkedIn, etc. He trained Drs and staff on the Mako robot all the years he was at Stryker so he has that robotic experience as well.
Any help is much appreciated and I apologize for the lengthy post, it’s a lot to explain.
