its 1:30am and I can't sleep. I've been a pharma rep for almost 20 years. I've made some decent money but it's extremely unfulfilling.

I'm riding with my manager tomorrow. I'm a grown adult but he with stand next to me all day and critique my work. Next week is a national sales meeting. Role plays, breakouts, dinners, all packed into the day.

I wish I took the risk that many of my friends did and started my own business. I am trapped in this industry. Life has been a chore. If you're young please think about the long term of this career.

It truly is an awful profession and gets worse as you get older...Seek ways to escape as soon as possible...I have
gone from living in the same neighborhood as many of my doctors, to living in a trailer park. (I am not kidding here.) But I am free of the golden handcuffs that kept me "chained" to that awful industry.
 






This topic really caught my eyes and opinion. Couldn't agree more with the postings. Been in this evil industry for over 30 years and left clinical medicine & patients to join what I thought would be highly scientific as well as altruistic. It was like that back in the day but in the last ten years it's nothing but high & mighty no nothing drink the koolaid bully management pushing us around. Getting out. Have lost my soul and nothing is worth that.
 


I joined a Scientology sect and my soul was restored. I was just a trained monkey and was jealous of my lying CEO and his hussy wife. Sorry, but I'm still mad at the raw deal I was given.

It has turned into a very bad, demoralizing industry to be in when you are experienced. However, you can make a change. I didn't want to start my own business although I did think about it. Instead, I looked for another position where I could utilize my skill set, be very selective of the management style and stayed similarly in clinical sales. I kept myself open and applied. It took time but I knew their is a company out there where I would be a good fit for them. Yes, I had days of rejection and disappointment but after those emotions went away, I postulated for myself that wasn't going to be the right company for me and several months down the road, I would have regrets. Long story short, I am working for a family owned, 40 year old, prosthetic company. I work along side the lead prosthetist, calling on surgeons. I did take a pay cut but can still manage family finances. My stress is good stress and it's fulfilling. I never take work home at night or on weekends. The owner believes in having a life especially after working with trauma patients and how precious life & good health are. My advice: look elsewhere you will find another opportunity that restores your health and well being.
 


I feel your pain. I'm 45 yrs old. I think I may have 1-2 years top left at my company. Private payors continues to go down and my market is already pretty saturated. I had a since of dredd thinking I would need to find another job shorty...and then what? Work another 3-5 years and hope people still hire 50 year old reps. I don't know what to do, but i know if I continue to go down the same path I don't think it will end well. I think I had a legit breakdown today. I am usually very laid back, this thought hit me like a ton of bricks today.

Get out now for your health...pharma sales is not worth having a breakdown over...I came close to one myself
and still suffer from PTSD from being pushed out at the age of 50...have not been able to find gainful employment since being out of the evil drug biz...the industry doesn't translate to any real job because it is a completely phony charade to start with.
 


It's a no brainier job..I got paid to drive a company car, read magazines in lobbies and hope to get 30 seconds for a "sig", as an adult male I got to spend hours standing in closets, sitting in my rep chair in the hallway of office or in some break room with boxes of old bagels and left over lunch, no I wasn't changing the world, pay not bad , no stress compared to real commission sales, easy life but don't wait to long to get out

When you closely look at it, MD's are just drug pushers as well. Medical sales is terrible because medicine is terrible because it is controlled by the Elite, that do not have our best interests in mind.

You are all just slaves in the system. For real. I read the posts on here, and most of you have about a 7th grade intelligence level.

Or, you have a drinking problem. Probably both. Or are NPC.
