J&J and Android Phone sync.

Any success with using an Android phone and syncing with mail server? New to company and have this device. Can you use apps like Touchdown or ActiveSync to configure email and calendar sync?

Four months ago I bought my own Android phone which I was paying for as my personal phone, and was told by ITS that they did not support synching with the Android system. So I had to take it back and instead get a Blackberry which I then expensed to J&J. Duh... how ridiculous.

I am with Verizon, did they just make the switch or did you have to pay to just buy the phone (500 retail).

I had already bought the Android before I found out that J&J wouldn't synch to it. I always liked having control over my personal phone and used it for business purposes. So I traded in the Android for a Blackberry (since Best Buy would let me trade, but not get a refund for the Android) . Then-- this is the part I didn't like so much... I had to go through some paperwork with ITS to transfer my personal phone number to a J&J Verizon business account. I was assured that I could get my personal number back if I left J&J, which I did about a month ago and that process was fairly smooth.

So, you can either buy your own phone or let J&J buy one for you. Had I known it would end up this way, I would have let J&J pick up the tab for the Blackberry, too. LOL.

If you go with an iPhone, it's much easier because you can synch to J&J by downloading a few security certificates. You don't have to assign your personal phone number over to J&J.

Good luck.

Since we already support Windows Phone 6.5 as a device it shouldn't be too much work to get them on standards once they're released by the carriers in November.

I wish they would support Verizon so I could get off my Windows 6.5 device.

Any changes to the J&J/Android sync yet? I just got a MyTouch phone, and would love to connect to my work email as well as my comcast one, but don't know how to set it up. I can go to myapps.jnj.com through my phone's internet connection, but I would like it better if it acted more like the comcast email that just downloads all the time.

Android phones are not allowed on the J&J network.

1) Too many differences between manufacturers
2) Cloud services and open app store (unverified sources) beyond J&J's control

It has been explicitly announced that Android is not supported/allowed and will not be in the near future either. Apple only - or Blackberry of course. So no pulling in data straight from Exchange.

What you can do is sync manually with a cable or bluetooth so you can at least pull in your appointments and contacts, but technically that's not allowed either.
