Layoffs

Yesterday, Presidents Day, a US holiday, all JNJ pharm company presidents met to finalize reorganization and layoff announcements. All OpCo Presidents were there with their HR Leads. Today, Tuesday, these OpCo presidents met with their direct reports to finalize the lists and communications to those affected. These will be across JNJ. Meetings will take place tomorrow, Wednesday morning, and displacement communications will take place throughout the day. It will not be a happy day. Many will be impacted across ALL OpCos. All of this is timed to be in the context of the Weldon retirement announcement as a means to boost the stock price.

Just Pharma or MDD and Consumer?

A bunch of good people from CADO were let go without any prior heads up. Boggles my mind why the so called pharma leadership would lay off people in pharma when that is the only growth part of J&J and is actively launching products and new indications. Why on earth would you cut resources from a growing segment? Did the leadership obtain their MBAs from anyidiotcangetanmba.com? I no longer have any confidence in Pharma leadership.

Pharma is the only growth part??? Med Devices have grown to be the largest segment of JNJ, especially after the Synthes acquisition. Get your facts straight.

Pharma is the only growth part? Give me a break!! You would probaly call the Ionsys failure a sucess. The only thing Pharma has launched is bullshit. Get your facts straight!!!

50 people in house lost their jobs on monday. Areas cut were in medical education/ information, sales analytics and business operations. People were blindsided including their management. It has been a really tough week for everyone involved.

Almost all of Sales optimization and a few in sales planning people were displaced and the rest of sales analytics got rolled into other departments.

Can we please stop using that overtly, politically correct word, "Displaced?" Please??? These people were LAID OFF. Displaced is the kinder, gentler word that the higher-ups in J&J made up so they can feel better about themselves. After all because we're so diversified there's lots of other opportuntiies to fall into right? So therefore it's a short displacement right? Bullsheet!

And to the previous poster asking about the increased workload - What workload? Everyone has been in a stagnant status-quo and not taking any chances or attempting any type strategic or creative thinking for fear of them being next. This is the proverbial brain drain that is happening all over big pharma.

I guess Alex got his wish to run J&J only what he's running is a poor excuse for what this company was when he started or when he led the helm at Janssen back in the "good ol'days!" I wish good luck to Alex but can't say I see anything dramatic happening to the culture around here.

Suit up for the next round of "team building", off-site "special committee" meetings, and Leadership slides.
Wooops...there goes the first half of 2012 (deja vus...again).
Just in time to create and measure Metrics in one meeting.
