1. Amgen has no faith in MDP to train up new managers.

You are right about the bitterness.
A good number of us are bitter.
We were told that we were the future managers of Amgen.
We put in the time and the work.
Amgen then goes out and hires external candidates.
Bitterness is natural in that situation.
