More layoffs supposedly on the way. Which groups provide little value?

Instead of eliminating core functions that can be repurposed, why not truly embrace tech and AI and cut the little value add roles? I took a look at bloated organizations and procurement and compliance have so many people. Procurement has been hit a few times but still very large. Compliance orgs are huge. Isn’t AI able to do more of these functions now?

From EMEA perspective Global Services is the most top heavy group in Johnson & Johnson with 16 VPs & 160 Directors pushing $200MM in total compensation. This group could be cut by 75% to 4 VPs & 40 Directors saving $150MM in one day. That money would be given back to the rest of the company. Supply Chain is #2. Instead of doing the above they will cut the lower level people first since the decisions are made at the top. You will see. We are expecting big cuts here in MedTech Synthes & Cerenovus and some in Janssen vaccines & oncology. Switzerland, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands.

What does Global Services do? There are so many Directors and Senior Directors across different orgs at J&J not really doing much. There is a huge opportunity to cut down costs at the higher level.

How is Cerenovus and Synthes doing in Europe? Are they maintaining share?

Why do we have a non revenue producing, ever “global world wide director” in EMEA only reporting to his image he looks at in the mirror? He is such a fool. A coordinator could do his audits, runs around the world like the clerk his is.
Bye Bye!

Agree but GS is taking on more from the business which sneakily means they get more money to be more top heavy and less doers just a lot of sayers who actually have no leadership ability.

Song and dance. Meanwhile their fearless leader is on Miami Beach when they specifically told the org they would b moving to a GS hub pre-Covid. But rules don’t apply to VPs and Directors. Join us in Tampa that should be a clear expectation.

A percentage of employees don’t need to be at the hub, that’s also at the bottom. I’m not in GS but that’s what I’ve heard from one of their leaders, it’s a small percent however

Procurement and finance
Just saying I can’t get anything done with GS Procurement folks. They close my PRs with no contracts in place. My suppliers freak out because they require contracts to invoice and it always needs to get escalated to an actual human in Procurement. Procurement already fast passed almost all my contracts with their job aids/automations. No contracting sounds more efficient until you run into the situation where a PO is approved, no contract and supplier refuses to start work.

Finance.

Look right or left and there's a director. Too many of them who just get updates from the people beneath who are doing the actual work and they barely know the subject matter or can problem solve.

Finance.

Placing finance-trained individuals in tech roles without the necessary expertise is a major mismatch—it’s no surprise when they struggle to contribute meaningfully or end up merely forwarding emails.

Too many directors with no direct reports.
Too many sr managers with no direct reports.
Too many manger with no direct reports.
Too many meetings with too many talkers and not enough doers.
Too many project managers managing projects that are late and fail to deliver results.
Too many project managers managing projects that are too busy managing their fantasy league.
Too many executives producing poor results.
Too many board members looking the other way.

2025 Layoffs will be more than the 20,000 in 2024. Through December expect almost 23,000 total. Significant numbers of people will be affected in EMEA & US (again). Need to pay for more acquisitions & litigation. Mentor, Cerenovus, Endo … look out/bid out.
