OFIX 2nd Q Numbers Look Good.

As already mentioned in post #12, Ortho sales are 31 % of total Ofix sales and the annual worldwide Ortho market is worth $ 34 billion ( orthopedic trauma $ 6-7 billion). I, therefore, don't see how you can suggest treating it with complete indifference. What it needs is a strong, visionary leader with a profound understanding of this market in order to grab some of the huge market out there.

Correction: annual worldwide Ortho market is worth $ 42 billion not $ 34 billion ( orthopedic trauma $ 6-7 billion). Not that it makes any difference to OFIX Ortho whixh is a no count.

It appears 3rd Q numbers are looking good. Thanks in part to spine stim sales. With 2011 stim sales down close to 20% in doesn't take much growth on the stim side in 2012 to have a big impact on the company performance. Even if they show 8-9% sales growth on stim sales 3rdQ but still down 10-12% from 2010 record stim sales, OFIX gets a major boost due to 2011 poor performance with stim sales. If you noticed last Q2 the implant sales are terrible but biologics is killing it. Stim sales saved the quarter. It was a major benefit to Ofix to have such poor stim numbers in 2011 that with a little recovery its a big impact to the bottom line in 2012. So much for the death of stim sales........

Who said anything about the "death of stim sales?"

Wow it is amazing how the spine stim sales are so great, most spinal fusion procedures are down 25-40%, from what I hear. Isn't spine stim used on spinal fusions? How has spine stim been immune?

Your post is correct, fusions are down at least 25%. Many reps have quit Orthofix. The only reason they look like they are growing at 9% is because they are selling millions of dollars of bone stims wholesale for very low prices to distributors. This is not long term business as our competitors will begin lowering their prices again. These wholesale sales were not about the best product or "the science" just about the deal they just scored.

If they are growing BS by 9%, I think you would see margin deterioration if they were selling BS wholesale . From Q1 and Q2 the margins are in tack. Maybe it will show up in Q3 and Q4 but it has not shown up to this point. I know they have been selling BS wholesale for years where needed but for the most part the business is direct. Fusions might be down 25% but BS even when it was at the top of it's game only penetrated 25% of the fusion market. Ofix SS can grow by beating up on the competition and growing the market which is under utilized.

overall SS has lost very few reps since 2010. I'll be less than 10%
