What is the Oncology culture like at AZ?
Don’t. Just don’t. Onc was great until big pharma AZ metrics started to spread like wildfire. Big Pharma needs something to show for the expense, tangibles. Counterproductive to Onc and RD. If you want to be in a true Oncology environment, go to biotech...one that doesn’t want to sell out that is. Good luck.
 


It all depends on your manager. Our director is matrix driven which shows they have no idea how oncology work. We are not oncology, we are about making sure the box is checked on reaching HCPs so we can look good. It's not about the message, it's about making 2 to 3 product calls and doing a number of programs. Think like this; DID I CHECK THE BOX TODAY.
 










What is the Oncology culture like at AZ?
It is favoritism first and always in Onc at AZ. You’ll see real quick who is each leader’s favorite. At all levels. Shortly after that you’ll know if you’re on your manager or their manager’s favorite list. If so you’ll be fine. If not that means you’ll meander along at 1-2% raises per year, never get any good opportunities to do things and will head the list of expendables when a new head of onc or a franchise comes in and changes things.

Because there will always be change. The franchise heads in the US are just checking a sales box on their way to their next cushy job. They mostly have zero sales or onc experience. They’re the chosen few who are given the job on their way to something else. So they come in and change things for change sake. They have to show some level of activity, and just doing what the person before them did isn’t gonna look good to Dave.

When that happens, those that didn’t end up being a favorite, or the right person’s favorite, will likely be out.

It’s all so predictable because it has happened and is happening.
 


Good products but upper management can only think about metrics. They are a little out of touch and we are top heavy. People are beginning to look around for other jobs in oncology that do not act so primary care.
