Patterson rep from Merck

Who is the older women that is the Merck rep for Patterson? At our recent meeting she was the only manufacturers rep to break down her display and leave early. I had some questions on her new oral flea and tick product and went to her display after lunch. She was long gone. All the other reps were there. I guess Merck does not care if we sell their products.

If you have questions then ask your local Merck rep. We don't need you to sell Bravecto. We are fine without your order taking skills.

Guess the poster was right. Merck does not care if we sell their products. So in the mind of Merck we are just "order takers?" That being the case I will "take orders" for Merial Nexgard and BI bios.

Robin Mease is the National Account Manager from Merck. Clearly, the above posts aren't from Merck employees--probably Ceva, Merial, Elanco or quite possibly one of your competing distributors--trying to stir the pot. Definitely reach out to your local rep: they would be able to target with you, hopefully ride-along and easily answer any questions.

I am a manufacturers rep and I love working with distributors that are productive. I don t care if they sell the product, take orders for the product or have the clinics want list blow through their open car window! If the distributor rep is making money and I am detailing my product we will both do well.

The only people that complain about distributor reps are manufacturer reps that wail about distributors not selling their products. They do this because they are so ineffective in selling their line that they use distributors as a justification as to why their sales suck. As a manufacturer rep I know this to be a fact. My distributor colleagues work hard and are professional. They do what is best for the customer and their company. Keep doing what you are doing and ignore the incompentent company reps who couldn't close a door let alone a sale. That Merck rep that broke down early will now say that they left early because Patterson reps are not supportive. It is easier to lay the blame for failure on someone else then to accept the fact that you are a weak and non motivated sales person.

Robin should be gone! She poorly represents the company and is an embarrassment. She was previously in a much higher position; she has no clue about the value of distribution. She was the reason why so many orders went direct to Merck/Schering-Plough... Your new Colorado rep can attest to that.

Distributor reps do what is best for themselves; PERIOD! Whichever spiff is best and which product will put more money in their pockets. If a problem arises with that product; easy---call the manufacturers rep and have them see the account. Their are some that will work hard with/for you, but they are the exception.

As opposed to doing what NOT is best for them selves?

Distributor reps are dispensable. They cry and whine when an order doesn't go through them. They EXPECT it to and they want to get paid on every product regardless of whether they have ever supported it or know anything about it. Zoetis has done without distribution, Merial barely uses distribution. Zoetis is number one--probably because they are onto something here. Eliminate some of the leaches and dead weight and the profits are higher. Distributors are just order taking monkeys.

As the margins get tighter and tighter, (one of) the only ways to shave margin is to cut out the middle man.

This isn't the 90's anymore. Good luck as AH transitions away from (albeit very slowly) from Distribution.

Oh my gosh - I am a manufactures rep and I once had to break down and leave a meeting such as you are discussing because I had a very personal family matter to attend and had to catch a plane. No slight on the distributor reps or their manner of business - just had to leave early. Now the rep in question may be worthless but I am amazed no one gave her any slack - just in case!

Distribution are just order takers stop expecting them to sell your product. Mfg rep is the person responsible for selling a product.

Idexx should be a eye opener, better stop being order takers and realize if you don't support the Mfg that still run products through you or more will go the Pfizer route... Lose a elanco or Merk or BI and your totally screwed.

She was seen later that day at the airport bar waiting for her flight to New Jersey. Her reputation for laziness is well known by those she has had dealings with. She does not need to be cut any slack. She just needs to be cut.
