Question for the folks who sell TZP

I'm not a sales rep but work at one of the newer US manufacturing sites, coming up on my 4-year anniversary. As we all know TZP (Mounj & ZEP) is this company's fuel to reach the stratosphere (not because of its initial filed indication...wink wink). Our production volumes for TZP are blowing through the roof. How the hell are patients able to afford ZEP....what's their cost, ~ $500 a Rx? The US population is just south of 350MM, with an obese population over 40%...do the math, this company is making BOOKOO dinero! The product works don't get me wrong, but only sustainable through continued use (assuming patient lifestyle doesn't change). How do patients afford this.... certainly, insurance companies are eventually going to give you the "Heisman" stiff arm? I hope you guys are getting paid good, b/c Ed and Dave are racking in the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

As you probably know, many insurance payers will cover Zep if the pt is obese, has comorbidities, etc. But you are right about the life-time hook. There is a reason the low dose is 349 and then the higher doses are $499. Unfortunately we live in a society where people are willing to pay that to cover up their poor diets and sedentary lifestyles. Almost all patients will need to be on this med for life.

I've been in diabetes space for almost 20 years and over that time the standard of diet & exercise never worked for majority of people. I think most patients don't have time and energy and it's just extremely hard to get on a sustainable lifestyle change. Plus, looks like according to science their body fights against weight loss. I'm convinced that the shitty hormone stuffed, pesticide rich, nutrient poor food that is easy to get, contributes to the problem. So this med really has been life-changing for majority of these patients. Based on what the office staff who take Zep told me they hope to lose weight and get off it, managing through better lifestyle. But many find that they get the hunger back and go on ravaging their favorite foods once the med wears off. So people find money. They try whatever they can to get coverage through insurance if possible, or find cash. There are many who need it who still can't afford it. But if you think about the long-term benefit of general health improvement when someone sheds 20%+ of their weight, it's worth it.
