Recon reps to go direct....

I'm curious to know if any joint recon reps are direct and how they like it? Word on the street is only a handful of distributors are left and once their contract is done, we distributor model reps are going direct. Pros, Cons....?

If you have a good distributor, there are only cons. Direct you have less power in the field. They can always change your quota or commission structure without your input. 1099 gives you all the power and motivation if you are successful. Just the taxes implications alone, I would never go W2.

I guess my point is if there is no choice to go direct. When the last of the distributors no longer get contract extensions.

It depends on your situation. If you have been doing this for a while, have a stable of loyal surgeons that can fly solo and just need a cover rep in the room and have a nice commish % worked out going direct is a huge dick in the ass. If you are newer with a not so lucrative contract and are still grinding it out going direct is great.

You get salary plus commish plus pretty good benefits. Overall you have a lower ceiling but higher floor. You do become more expendable and are now just like everyone else. Accountable and easily replaceable.

If you have great relationships you’ll be ok, if not get the lube ready and be prepared to say thank you.
