Former big and small pharma rep here...I've used several different "in-house" systems that you long for...they're crap. Salesforce is cheaper and more robust than any program a company 20 times larger than Ameritox could afford. It has a lot of features, that while not always useful, are novel, these are things that they would never afford on their own. I was with Schering a few years back and this functionality destroys what we had there.
Stop complaining and sell something. Who really cares what or where you input your calls? Seriously? This is not necessarily an indicator that they can't afford it, it's an indicator that this is just not the type of crap they would like to spend their time and resources on.
If you assembled cars you would complain that they don't actually make the seats or dashboards that they put in the cars. The company found another company who is really good and fast at making seats because that's all they do and bought the seats to install in their cars...it's this crazy invention called specialization.
