Shake up in David M's area

Met with my VP to discuss my thoughts on moving to another group that is in deep trouble. He led me to believe that a few Senior Directors will be gone by September.

Had dinner with FD (CFO) a couple of weeks ago. NOT HAPPY WITH BT !!!!

Of course not! What I find amazing is that in a corporation this size (PFE) that the CIO reports to the CFO and isn't an equal on the Management Team. This allows the CFO to have his own personal whipping boy! It is amazing how out of date the corporate structure is at Pfizer (Hello 1980s )

Corporate Governance has always been bad at Pfizer; the long standing motto of the employees has been CEO/CFO and the BOARD must go. We got rid of Kindler.
We also shouldn't keep the hatchet man FD.

The fact that the CIO reports to the CFO shows how little in touch they are and value their data assets. Then again, since the current CIO was third choice for the position, and moving all IT to Wyeth Folks, I might leash him too.

This is not a shock, and has already started. Legal had a bit of a shake up already with the realignment of legal under corporate func. Hopefully MS heard the writing on the wall and was ready for his ousting before it happened.

I suspect that the Senior Director/Senior Manager bands are going to be hit pretty hard with the penny pinching prospects for the near future. No reason to pay these people what they're earning with a manager/director will do just as well...and lets be honest, looking around BT, the senior director/sr manager level has an awful lot of dead weight. People who push reports back and forth but don't particularly add value.

It is is no secret that project after project from BT in support of Finance has be a big failure or a major disappointment. SAP will help but will it get rid of some of the crap systems implemented in the past 2 years. Can't believe that the SD's dishing out this sh*t are still here.

Agreed. How about the Senior Managers/Directors/Senior Directors with zero direct reports (including contractors)? How much value do they really add?

Like this thread - agree with everything said but the individual Senior Directors steering the ship have been lost for the past few years. All nice people but ALL unable to get anything done right. All promises, NO DELIVERY. Never !!!

Can you explain this stupid statement? Like, which systems implemented in the past 2 years?

I agree, BT is spending most its time deconstructing the architecture that is in place to clear the field for SAP, which is no panacea.

The only groups implementing new Software solutions are on a local level through local groups like Solutions Delivery. Everything else is on maintain and sustain with a skeletal crew and budget.

What happens to the skeletons once SAP is implemented ?

Good question!
even if the systems aren't related to SAP, i think you can guess what is going to happen to those systems:
1) If they absolutely need the system and they are entrenched enough , then they will
get their budget squeezed and maybe outsource, just like they are currently planning
to do with Oracle Clinical (Hope their DBA is reading this so he can get a new job)
This is well known when the put off the current Oracle clinical upgrade so it can be
outsourced and give the outsourcer a quick win!
2) Like the point above, they ( i.e CIO and BT) think having IT tech talent on
staff is a waste of money,
any and all systems will be under pressure to get them outsourced.
They do not want to manage anything internally! And they will squeeze the budget
until they get what they want.

BT wastes so much $$$ by over outsourcing. It is really expensive to have to bring every new project team up to speed on Pfizer procedures. Too many new people all the time means you're always doing remedial training.
