Someone please explain this?

My doctor in fl, has just recently started using this for his pain management business. I have insurance and it was charged a hefty fee for one test. Fine, i get that. Now a close friend and me got to talking who visits the same doctor. This person has no insurance and was recently laid off. Basically not in a good situation. He received a insanely high bill also. Now he is upset and went from being upset to screaming "you can't take what someone doesn't have" I asked him why he would sign the same contract as i would to accept this service knowing how potentially expensive it could be, he claimed he did not sign anything that day and the doctor just said he was doing a routine urine test.

How can you guys legally do this? This man is a older veteran and partially disabled! I do well for well for living by myself, but i cannot pay this for him. Next month the same thing will happened and he may get another statement and i can't help him in this situation it seems. He pays his bills every month and even with food stamps, the fridge is always empty when i visit.

Basically i want to know how this is legal to do this to him? I am no lawyer but if he never signed and dated that consent to pay for this service, how can you reasonably force him to pay? Time for a new doctor for both of us. I refuse to hit the donut hole early because a piss inspecting company tapped out the policy. This is crony capitalism. Wonder if the doctor at least got a vacation or

Thanks for the response. I hope you are right, I told him what you wrote and he had me laughing. He was all like "well you can't hurt my credit anymore then I already have." Funny you said the kickback thing with the doctor, he goes on cruises, vacations, trips to holy places like once every 2-3 months.

We are both having a long talk with him in a few weeks and will explain the Medicare fraud, (evil bastards) doctor kickbacks, and other lawsuits they face by scamming people. Hell I am not getting my insurance dinged up by taking one more of these tests. Especially when I called my insurance and they told me it isn't medically necessary. I will offer the doctor the opportunity to test both of us multiple times throughout the month with any other form of test, I know he told me he gets the throwaway ones for 8 dollars but charges a little more. That is responsible and if I took multiple tests throughout the month it would cost a HELL of a lot less.

Wait, the doctor receives results of the drug level in our system based off data ameritox used in a methadone setting? Really? If the doctor at the end does not agree with this, I think I will deem him corrupt and most likely getting commission from peoples piss. Heck, I can see my friend throwing that full piss cup at this doctor next time. lol ameritox why don't you guys piss in a cup and mail it to me, I will sent your 1000 bill in the mail. I'll even be nice and dip it in Walgreens test for ya and if I find out you are dirty or not taking enough. I'll suspect diversion. Imagine that, a company who commits fraud and doctor kickbacks calling people out for diversion and doing the wrong thing. That is calling the kettle black.

Strong post: Lets hear more.

Looks like A CSR's worst nightmare in here. insert scripted response here.
"sorry for the inconvenience but our servers are currently undergoing maintenance and i am unable to access any information, please call back in 24 hours."
If not acceptable answer,
"please remain on the line while i transfer you to the proper department that can handle your needs, cold transfer call to anyone else but your line"

Advice for the OP: Rule number one when on a Medicare Supplement. Ask if the test is Medicare approved? If the doctor does not know then tell him you will only do the test once he can tell you its approved by Medicare. Doctors test all the time like this so they can protect their practice from patients that are abusing drugs. The doctor has every right to fire you as a patient because he does not trust that your taking the prescribed meds correctly or taking illegal meds etc. So as much as you want to throw the test bottle back in his face he has every right to escort you off his premises. This has nothing to do with Medicare fraud especially since as you mentioned that the test is "not medically necessary" according to Medicare.

Clearly no actual Atox employees on here. If your friend is disabled, he likely is on Medicare. Ameritox is contracted with Medicare, and any high bill he received is likely a mistake. He should call the customer service number on the bill and ask them to check that his Medicare and/or veteran's benefits were billed. Even if the high bill is NOT a mistake, all he has to do is fill out a simple 5 question financial assistance app to see if he he qualifies for the bill to be fully or partially forgiven. This is a legitimate process of forgiveness, not what these board trolls are suggesting. Ignoring bills is a fool's choice, no matter whether collections agencies are used or not. Anyoen with any sense of decency or pride would feel that if they can address their bills in a legit way, that is the better path.

First, don't pay. It will not go to collections.

Second, get off pain meds. You are part of the problem. Your friend could probably find a job if he wasn't stoned out of his mind on pain killers all the time. Suck it up and move on. I have 2 bulging disk. I just suck it up, stretch and exercise. I still hurt, but I am also still productive. IF THERE WERE NOT SO MANY PEOPLE ON THESE POINSONS, THERE WOULD BE NOT DIVERSION AND STREET VALUE, THUS NO NEED TO DRUG TEST PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEED THEM!

SUCK IT UP!!!!
